Finally got my back-ordered replacement screen in. I had requested aToshiba display instead of my bad CMO, and although tech support didn't promise anything, they came through. The TMD screen is perfect!

Why do you want to find out what type of screen you have? You'll just be setting yourself up for disappointment :p

Can you change the screen yourself or a tech has to do it?

    That's what I'm thinking!

    Thank you.

You mean the one I got? There was a label on it that says "Toshiba." First thing I looked for when the tech opened the box.

After seeing him do it, I could do it myself. He didn't even detach the screen from the body. Just pulled off the plastic trim surround and removed the keyboard to access the wires to the screen; I think 8 screws total to remove the screen, rewired the new one, and that was it.

Yes; though I did have to wait about a week as the part was back-ordered.

Oh, and for anyone wondering: "6" is the magic number of bad pixels for a screen replacement.

Can you post the part number? I am going to request that Dell comes out and replaces my CMO screen for the Toshiba.

I just posted about this in another thread. The part number for any LED replacement screen is cx059, but that doesn't mean anything as far as which brand you get; same number for both types. My tech said she would TRY to request a TMD for me, but that Dell normally just sent out whatever was in stock. I told her "Well, I don't really care as long as the replacement, CMO or TMD, looks like it should on a $2000+ computer, but I'd appreciate you trying specifically for a TMD, as I've read about too many people with CMO issues." Don't know if she had anything to do with it, but I'm obviously happy!

Really the CMO's screens are just "Grainy" if that bothers you. Other than its a very good 13.3 screen. I look at several 12-14inch WXGA screens, and some are just down right bad compared to my CMO. Also the CMO does require some calibration to produce more accurate colors.

    %$#!!!!!!

I also got my screen today yea!
And, it was a Toshiba - double yea!.

BUT - it was defective out of the box. Got everything put back together, but the Toshiba had 5-6 vertical lines. Took things back apart, checked cables and made sure the connector(s) were seated correctly.

Unscrewed the display from the lid and carefully powered up. A very slight flex of the screen and half went blank or screwy with lines. A second later, it was obvious that there was a crack causing everything.

Had to put the old CMO back in....
