Hello,
For all you WoW players out there who have purchased Studios with the ATI 3650 graphics chip, could you please give some feedback on gameplay / framerates.
My main concern is whether or not the laptop can handle the game at 1920x1200 resolutions, and failing that 1400x900, both being set at max settings.
I specifically ordered the 1400x900 screen so as not to overburden the video chipset, but if the 3650 is up to snuff, the full HD resolution would be a nice bonus and would easily warrant a re-order.
Please limit your responses to actual experiences only as I have noticed that, although the general consensus is that WoW is a very undemanding game, even contemporary hardware can reveal weaknesses at times.
Thank you,
Jon

Sorry to blow your bubble, but i guess you're dreaming about playing everything max settings ... I had a Inspiron 1520 with Geforce 8600M GT oc'ed and 2.2GHZ santa rosa duo core and it played at 1300x900 (something like that?) or less at most settings to medium and distance lowered to about 1/4 in order to get a good fps (30-35) ... Wow might not be high requirement but when it comes to loading in Shat / if / sw , it needs a bit more. Hope this helps. Please note that 8600M vs 3650 are equal power. Still, you're not trying to get it play at minimum ... but rather a good fps ... which is required for mmorpg's right.

I have a studio 17 (specs in sig, nothing crazy). It plays WoW great. I play at 1440x900, windowed mode maximized, and I have everything at max exceptions with the sole exceptions of the new shadows they recently put in with the last patch (which take a big hit on all but the best video cards. And they don't even look good. ).
I am a relatively hardcore player; I have downed Kiljaeden, although that's not a huge accomplishment these days, thanks to the last patch. I wouldn't be able to do bleeding edge content competitively if my computer impacted my playing. And, the fact of the matter is, the studio 17 does not. Does it give you 60+ fps in the raids? No, it doesn't. But, do you need 60+ fps in raids? Certainly not. I get 30+ in the middle of fights such as kiljaeden, illidan fire elemental tanking, eredar twins, so on, which looks excellent and has zero effect on my ability to play. Everywhere outside of raids I get even higher fps, with the exception of shattrath, which is 20-30. Isn't there no noticable difference to the human eye above 30 anyways?
WoW is an old game intended to be playable by as many people as possible. The 3650 may only be a midrange card, but I doubt it was even out when WoW was first developed. It is more than enough.
The poster above is talking about a different laptop with a different video card. Maybe it is said to be comparable, but comparable is not the same as the, well, same. I'm speaking from personal experience. Take it for what you will, but I love my studio 17 and since WoW is one of the main reasons I got it, I hope that says something. -
i too have the Studio 17 and i notice that it runs wow nicely...
agreed that not seeing 60+ fps...
recently, i'm messing with some UI's and that may be causing some lower FPS for me... but so far it's been great. -
Yea, i think it's because i had a lot of UI's, year ago , blizzard did not support that much UI so we had to download all these stuffs in order to make our life easier.

i got my studio 17 and installed wow on it same day. I get 60+ fps in org and stuff using MOBILITY MODDDER. In 10 man raids its around 30-45fps depending but it looks great the WLED screen at 1400x900 is extremely crisp. I get around 50fps in SHAT. (all settings maxed but shadows as well) keep in mind i play on cho'gall one of the highest populated servers grr but yea for a LAPTOP playing WOW it performs very well.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback, the general consensus seems to be that it should be very playable indeed.
Ordered my studio 17 on October 15th and just today it shipped!! Already got all the WoW patches downloaded ready to go when she arrives, can't wait!! -
Yes its an old thread. BUT the studio 17 vid card hasn't changed. Anyone try playing WOTLK on this thing?? How's it cope w/ the updated graphics engine?
