I configured the exact same components on two different Dell machines and the price is $350 more for one of them.

    Here are the two machines...

    One is an Inspiron 6400

    The other a D820 (Latitude)

I have a 6400 I'm returning due to heat issues, it has dedicated gpu, 7200 rpm hard drive..

My question is the D820, (even though it will have the Intel 950 graphics card) worth almost $400 more? Oh yeah, the D820 has a 3 year warranty...

What about weight? Is the D820 lighter or about the same...?

Latitudes are sturdier than inspirons, hence the + $400 price tag (they are from two different notebook classes). If the warranty is also longer in the latitude that also contributes to the price difference, despite the inferior Intel integrated graphics card.

Is it worth the extra cash? Well, that depends on how you plan on using the notebook. If you are on the move most of the time with the notebook then a latitude will last longer than an Inspiron (extended warranty may also come in handy). But for a home user I guess an Inspiron gives the best bang for the buck in terms of performance.

The insprion line is a consumer class machine, the latitude is a business class machine, if you looking for a machine for primarily entertainment and personal use, the inspiron would be a better fit, if its strictly a work related machine the latitude might be a better choice.

Hey Iceman, I'm about an hour north of you if you are in Chattanooga.

I have a home office, but go to another office in town from time to time and to Starbucks to get out of the home office some, so I do tote it around and it IS for business, but not a road warrior hauling it from office to office...

    Anyone else have input?
