thats a very good price for what you're getting in the e1705. I'd say its worth it. the graphics card in that machine is a beast.

the graphics card is certainly on the verge of being outdated. Fill out the FAQ. You'll get better help that way. Personally, I would go with the better, bigger e1705

I think it all comes down to the simple question of how large is to large for a laptop. If you are leaning towards a desktop replacement then you may want to opt for the larger screen. If you are cosnidering taking it with you on a regular basis then the 15.4" will probably be the better choice.
    Here's something to think about:
    E1705
    11.3" X 15.5"
    E1505
    10.45" X 14"

15.5" may not seem very big but if you get a tape measure an measure out the demensions of the E1705 you will see that it is relatively large and not the most portable.

In my own experience 17" is a nice desktop replacement but when considering portability, 15.4" is the way to go.

hope this helps with your decision

reg 1 yr warranty. only thing im worried about is what chris2pher71 said about the e1505's video card. i kind of want a laptop so 17" might be too big. Im just choosing between these 2 laptops so filling out the FAQ is the same.

It really depends on your needs. If you want portability and casual gaming, go for the e1505. The ATI x1400 can handle today's games with playable framerates. If you want a powerful DTR, go for the e1705.

As for the operating system, XP media center edition is basically XP Pro with media enhancements. Again, it really depends on your needs. Comparison here

for the e1705 or 1505? im leaning towards 1505 since im just a casual gamer. for $450 less, is it that a considerable downgrade or still worth the money? total for 1505 is $1273.30.

1uigi, I think your E1505 config is pretty good but I'll config a bit differently. I'll go for the (free upgrade) 1GB RAM & instead of having the 9 cell battery as my primary, I'll take the 6 cell as primary & get another 9 cell as secondary because that only costs $30 more than if you upgrade from the 6 cell to 9 cell as primary. By the way, what warranty are you getting for this config?

    Hmm...

I would try to go for the E1705 if you can take the price and the bulk - its built much better than the E1505 is. The E1705 (which BTW pretty much shares the same construction of the XPS M1710) has its case made of magnesium alloy, whereas most of the E1505 is made with ABS plastic.

getting 9 cell as secondary costs $130 more. maybe i should get the e1705 after all. i just think i made it too expensive. 17" is listed as a desktop replacement and i really want a laptop that can be portable.

yea, thats what i was thinking. if i want a laptop ~$1300, the e1505 is the one to get right?

    Intel® Core™ Duo Proc T2400 (1.83GHz/667MHz/2 X 1MB L2 Cache)
    Genuine Windows® XP Home
    15.4 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen SXGA+ Display with TrueLife™
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHZ, 2 DIMM
    256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™
    100GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
    8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 Internal Wireless and Bluetooth
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    Nylon Backpack Carrying Case

im not sure i want to spend that much anymore since technology is always changing fast.

I'd say $1,300 is a good amount to spend on an Inspiron. They are good budget machines.
If you can get the configuration you posted for that amount, it is definitely worth it. Just to throw more options at you, the HP dv5000t is another to look at, although it won't offer as high resolution of a display or the 7200RPM drive.

Yeah, I know it's $129 more but didn't you choose 9 cell as your primary battery & isn't that $99 more than if you didn't upgrade from the 6 cell??? So if you take 6 cell as your primary & just get another 9 cell as your secondary, isn't that only $30 more from your current config & you'll get 2 batteries instead of one & you can even sell the 6 cell battery to bring down your initial investment. :)

The 2nd battery is not neccessary but for just $30 more, you're getting another battery, which you can't buy a new one for $30... Yes, E1505 & 6400 are the exact same thing. :)
