I am probably going to get a Vostro and I was wondering if it is worth it for this...
-Intel® Core 2 Duo T5470 (1.6GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB) [Included in Price]
- Intel® Core 2 Duo T7100 (1.8GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB) [add $115]
- Intel® Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB) [add $195]
Would you say I should upgrade? And if so to the 1.8GHz or the 2.0GHz? I am going to game on this computer for a little while but I want it last, not for gaming but for just standard stuff like web browsing listening to music etc..

The general consensus of this forum on previous questions like this is that the t7300 is the sweet spot of performance for the dollar. I got one in my m1210 and I can notice the difference even between that and the 1.83 my girlfriends m1210 has. The 1.5-1.8 are probably good performers and definitely won't hurt you if you are just doing day to day email/browsing etc tasks. But the If you want performance on the dollar the 2.0 is a great choice.
Also, personally i'd spring for Home Premium, just because the DWM.exe (dynamic windows management) is and important part of vista.
Downgrade down two 1 gig of ram and buy your 2 gigs via new egg (see your 2x512's online) and you'll save a good 150 bucks. Then get Vista Premium and a T7300. -
save your money on the processor, upgrade vista to buisness and get 2gb ram. seriuosly, processor speeds these days arent worth the dollar difference, you really wont see the end result being worth it.
-
whats so special about vista buisness? And i am getting 2 gigs of Ram
-
Processors can't be upgraded and the 2-4mb cache + 25% speed boost does make a rather large difference.
You'd be smarter with your money if you got 1 gb, upgraded to 2 gig yourself (saving $150) and got that 2.0 -
processors CAN be upgraded yourself. but 25% faster is only if its using 100% of the processor. normal everyday use you would not see that at all i promise!
-
Yeah Processors can be upgraded. Took the 5470 out of my 1400 and put AS5 on it.

I like my T5250, i play games, music, edit pics movies, it works great -
not worth it, you'll get negligible improvement in game performance, web surfing, listening to music and whatever else you'll need the laptop for.

Vista Business have semi-transparent taskbars that don't work 95% of the time(whenever any window is maximized)
Vista Business have a encryption software to help hide your porn,,, ahem I mean sensitive business documents
Vista Business have some networking dealies that I don't understand.
Oh Vista Business costs $99 more. -
Vista uses dynamic window management, allowing the entire OS to be 3D-accelerated through your video card. This takes some strain off the process and provides a much better OS experience, not to mention a 3D one. Business/Premium comes with media centre and a few other goodies DVD and picture software akin to iLife.
Premium/Business costs more because it delivers a more full experiance, Home is only around for upgrade computers that were too slow to handle Premium/Business editions.
Across the board, Premium will have features that will be important in the future, Basic will remain a shined up version of XP. -
Im just gonna stick with Vist Home Basic and then use the extra money to get some games... CRYSIS when it comes out
-
your pc will run FASTER with premium
Worth it?
