    Hey all,

    I've got a 1555 spec'd out with a 25% discount coupon code applied($1154 to $865).

I was wondering if anyone thought it was worthwhile to call Dell up and try to get them to offer me an even better deal. There's nothing else I really want....I mean, I guess they could up me from a P8600 to a P8700, but that's about it. So I wonder if I could get them down to an even $800.

Any thoughts or recommendations? I'm on a very limited budget, so every bit helps.

    Joe

P.s. This will be used for grad school, not sure if that helps :)

After a 25% off coupon, I'm not sure what else a rep could give you. They could probably bump it down to $800.

Tell them you are certain to buy the laptop. They won't work with you if they think you aren't serious about the purchase. Don't ask for anything unreasonable. after that coupon, you probably won't get it.

I am also interested in knowing this because I have the same situation. Will it help by telling them I will be a first year college student? Also, could they make deals over the chat system they have or is better to call?

nice thread im in the same boat i really cant afford going over 900 bucks for my system but 25% off deal is too good to pass up.

I'm at $869 subtotal but w/ tax the total is $923. I'm also a soon to be poor graduate student.

If I can get 50 dollars off it would really help.

    Tell me how it goes.

Alright folks I went ahead and chatted w/ a dell sales rep online told him my i could only spend 800 dollars max and he asked me to call him so I let him. Well i guess there sales team is in India but the only thing he could do was give me a 100 dollar gift card but I would get it only after the laptop is purchased and shipped.

When I bought my 14z about a week ago, the guy was able to get me a so called "manager's discount" for like 50$. Maybe you need to talk to a manager or something, but it would seem odd for a manager to be answering phone calls?

Question, do you have to purchase the laptop during the call/immediately after the call? or can you wait and negotiate a deal and buy it the day after?

Well I told the sales rep i was going to wait a day. He told me to just e-mail him to get the offer when im ready to purchase. You have to place the order through the phone.

50 dollar manager discount? I would take that but it seems the 25 percent off makes it tough to get any more discounts. Thats at least what the sales rep said.

Apparently the 25% coupon on dell website doesn't work anymore. It says that I don't meet the eligibility requirements even though it worked yesterday with the same configured Studio 15.
How do you go about telling them about the coupon over the phone?

I always call, or go through the "order Modification Team" and instead of canceling, I always get $50 off and FedEx Overnight Air shipping.

    I don't go over board.

The coupon has been modified. If you follow the link on this site, it'll bring you to the configuration page. You can now use the coupon code once you've added it to your cart, but it forces you to buy the graphics card and a 2-year warranty, making the subtotal substantially higher.

well i called my dell rep to get the same deal like i did before except that i wanted to change my specs from the 2.2 processor to the 2.4 and reduce the HDD from 500GB to the 320GB but he doesnt seem to be able to do it since the coupon isnt vaild anymore. The only thing he can offer me is the same configuration w/ the 2.2 processor and 500GB. This is really getting frustrating.

I though the best time to buy a laptop was in july and august but these new dell deals stick.

the dell rep told me to purchase the system then call customer service and change the order but i just dont trust this guy. He was about the give me the computer for $1233 before i told him the deal was messed up and it was for $923 when i ordered it.

I guess i'll wait a little longer now. $923 exceed my budget of $850 max anyway but that deal was really good.

I've never really seen a dell deal that is "better" than the next... at least not by much. Normally the components magically end up being the same price....

Back to School sales aren't really all that great. I think it's normally because companies KNOW consumers will buy stuff for school etc. So laptops and whatnot. Therefore they dont need to really have big sales in order to sell.

I can tell that the deals are already starting to diminish. I got my studio1555 earlier this month with 300 bucks off. Now with the new deal, it's only 150.

I believe Junctioned is Canadian. (Woot Woot)

Dell Canada Deals kinda suck haha. I remember when I bought my inspiron 6400 I got a dell rep on this forum who gave me an extra 100$ off. It was sweet. :D I also got a cover for my computer... (the old 6400's had faceplates)

Too bad Dell doesn't do what Lenovo does where you can build an online config and save it as a quote good for 30 days. Lets you give it a little time to see if anything better turns up in the 30 days before the quote expires.

With Dell you gotta strike while the iron's hot. Will there be any better deals between now and when school starts? Tough to say.

Seriously though -- if you have a smokin' deal in hand you stand more chance of losing out than squeezing another $50 out of it.

By the way, if you have access to Dell EPP it can be worth checking there, they seem to throw in different sweeteners depending on your association. The config I just bought through my grad school included 2yr accident coverage & in-home warranty essentially for free, plus $175 off before the 7% EPP discount. Same config through my work EPP portal was same price and same $$$ off -- but only had the basic 1yr warranty.

Hey, yeah I'm canadian, so I bought it from dell.ca. The deals on dell.ca does suck, so I was really happy when it was $300 bucks off for the canada day sale (it's usually 100-150 off).

WE DONT EVEN GET THE STUDENT DISCOUNT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. Way for dell to hate on us, lol.
