Yes that first link you provided is the "grainy" complain we've all been hearing about. -
im gonna cancel and go with HP.

So, I ordered the WXGA screen. This doesn't affect me?
-
From what I gather.. only if it the glossy one. Looks like the wxga anti glare is the way to go. I don't know what to do myself. I chose the 1440X900 glossy. Like many, I wish they offered the higher res with just anti glare. Man I wish I could see a 1420 before buying.. This is the real downfall from ordering online.

try the kiosk or the dell direct store near you... I'm thinking of doing that myself this afternoon.

I would but I don't think they have one in New Mexico
-
I drove to a Dell Kiosk in New Hampshire over the weekend, specifically to view a 1420, but was told they would not have them for display purposes till early August.
But they did have (standalone) all eight lids (only) with the glossy screens.
IMO blue looked the best. The texture of the black and the white were different than the other colors. As hard as I tried, I could no scratch the blue lid.
Yeah, pity no high-res matte available in the 1420's. Doubt I'll go glossy. -

Between the issues that people have had with the glossy screens, my personal experience and the following Cnet review, the standard anti-glare screen became a no-brainer for me....

The 14.1-inch wide-screen LCD display offers a 1,440x900 native resolution, which is a $50 upgrade Dell offers over the standard 1,280x800 screen (standard on both 14- and 15-inch laptops). For a screen this size, the difference is honestly negligible, but people working with digital photos, for example, may want the slightly higher resolution. Neither screen would be able to play back Blu-ray movies in full 1080p resolution.
At this point, I am perfectly happy with my 1420 with the anti-glare 1280x800 screen.

My D630 has a perfectly clear screen.
EDIT: I forgot to mention it has a WXGA+ resolution screen. -

But is it glossy or anti-glare?

All Latitudes are matte. -
My vostro 1500 wxga true life was blurry. I returned it.

That certainly simplifies the equation
I have always gone the Inspiron route since it has always represented a better deal for me (e.g. price, dedicated graphics and value).
I work in a corporate environment and have found that for my personal needs the Inspiron has been a better fit than the Latitude.

For those in the peanut gallery, true life = glossy.
Anti-glare for me thanks

Actually, the D531 has a glossy option.

My 1420 WXGA (1280x800) TL glossy is crystal clear. The hardware ID says LPL0000. No blurriness or graininess. I have it sitting side-by-side with my D620 that has a 1280x800 anti-glare and the 1420 TL is sharper and clearer.

My 1500 with wxga and true life is clear.

I received my Vostro 1500 with Trulife. It has the standard display 1280x800 and the screen is crystal clear and looks beautiful.
Would this be Dell's answer to the blurry screens?
