I honestly thought Dell uses like the same hardware on XPS and inspiron.
    But...Apperently not.

    I ran 3Dmark05 today, I scored around 2642
But when I check FutureMark's ORB site, XPS with similar configs as mines...and even config's much less than mines...score like 3000 easy.

So what gives, why does Dell handicap the inspiron like this?

    Specs:
    C2D 2.0ghz
    4GB Ram
    120GB HD.
    Vista Ultimate 64bit Sp1
    ---------------------------------

Changed to TweakForce drivers, and now score is 3432
    Still, It's two low, imo.

    -----------------------------
To use the drivers I'm using now..the ones that increasedmy scores.
    go to: http://tweakforce.com/
    go to : downloads
go to: Xtreme-G Mobile nVidia Drivers
go to: XP 32/64 or Vista 32/64.

Make sure to uninstall your current drivers, then boot to safe mode, run Driver Sweeper to clear those extra files.
    Then reboot and install.

    8400GS, and Drivers are 169.04, from LaptopVideo2Go.

I'm using 169.04 because, the generic microsoft one, and the latest ones from LaptopVideo2Go, causes my gpu temp to idle in the middle 60's while the 169.04 ones...makes it idle in the low 50's.

The 3000pts must be overclocked. You should really use 3dmark06, 05 is outdated.

I just changed Drivers to TweakForce Drivers, and now my score is 3432.
    Interesting eh?

See, man, I would upgrade to 06, but Orb doesnt have any systems similar to mines for 06. So I cannot compare my scores to anything.

Actually, 3432 looks pretty good for an 8400M GS. If you take a look at NBR reviews for Dell machines with the same GPU (Inspiron 1420, Vostro 1400, XPS m1300, etc), they're all hovering around the 3000 mark. Hell, the Inspiron 1420 with a T7500 only got 2800...

And while we're looking at NBR reviews, there's plenty of 8400M GS 3DMark06 scores to compare; there are still quite a few 8400M GS machines being reviewed, all using 3DMark06...

wow, dude, I did not know that.
but, I'm kind of confused though.

Check out these scores, and look at the specs.
    Confounds me.

    Sorry for double post.
But, Commander Wolf was spot on.
    I overclocked my 8400 just by 75mhz.

    Now, my score is 4026

    I increased both by 75mhz.
Right now without my notebook cooler, It's idling at 64 degrees celcius.

With the cooler, it stays around 55
