I was just at Best Buy and was surprised to see a studio 15 there. Even more surprising was to see how clunky and fat it is. I cant believe how much better it looks in pictures than it does in real life. It also feels kind of cheap. I hate to hate on this computer so much but man am I glad I canceled my delayed order! I just want to inform those who haven't seen them yet who might be on the fence: Dont' get it!

Dell used to sell a great product for a great price. Then they started making crappy desktops from a crappy price, and laptops soon followed. Needless to say, after owning... Latitude CPxH, Latitude D600, Inspiron 1100, Inspiron 9200, Inspiron 1521, Inspiron 1520, and now XPS M1330... I can safely say this is my last Dell notebook.

Glossy plastic laptops went from the top of my list to the bottom. Especially after seeing magnesium-alloy laptops up close. HPs elitebook is definitely going to change their annoying glossy look. I don't know if Dell is to blame. Most of their Home laptops are ugly and glossy ... seems like everyone who actually purchases from their Home line actually likes the look. Hence, Dell makes it that way.

    :| my life has changed.

Clunky?!, my roomie has a studio 15 and it actually looks pretty cool *jealous* Now that I just glanced over it is a tad thick toward the back ...

I have to agree with the opening poster. I use to avoid Dell like the plague but when the Studio Line was announced I thought I'd give Dell another look before I committed to buying from HP.

However it still looks like the same old dell. Ugly products at cheap prices. There's nothing wrong with being affordable but I want something looks at least decent.

But so far all their current laptops make me wanna cringe everytime I see one. I was going to suggest to my mom that she buy a laptop and I thought of Dell since she just wants a budget laptop but when I showed it to her she didn't like how it looked either.

Plus all the unpackaging pics and the review pics I've seen of the Studio 15 and 17 just look flat out depressing. From that fugly wedge to the way it looks so DULL and boring.

Sorry but Dell could have done a LOT better this time around. I really want to buy from them but I can't bring myself to buy something that just doesn't look good from a visual standpoint.

The Studio Hybrid however is one sexy lil beast. I might get 1 or 2 for my dad's office. Anyone know if there are any deals on them?

CassilineKnight, you're worried about visuals when an HP consumer line notebook is more likely to have hardware problems?

Yeah, Dell's sexiest products are definitely the Studio Hybrid, XPS 420, XPS One and the E6500.

M4400 comes in honorable mention, lol.

However, past the looks, I actually have a feeling of security with Dell. =/

Hmmm, I see nothing wrong w/the S15..I know someone who has it, and they like it very well..thus far! ;) :)

And, you are also forgetting that the XPS 1530 and the 1330 are nice also. ;)

Really, though...it's up to the *individual* and their own opinion. You don't buy a lappy because you don't like it! :)

What a world we would be if we all agreed on the same things, eh? :D ;)

While I have only owned it a week, I think the Studio 15 is a very solid notebook. Dell's notebooks have definitely come a long way since the Inspiron 5160 I bought in 2004. After that purchase, I swore to not look at Dell again. But Dell definitely gives you the best bang for your buck and that is why I keep coming back. As for looks, the Studio looks pretty decent to me. Dull and boring would be more like a Macbook. I also wasn't impressed with the the build of my Macbook either.

Well I find Macs to also be sexy from a visual standpoint but software wise I'm like a blind retard. I just don't feel comfortable when I'm using Macs. Maybe if I had the time and worked on it I'd get used to it but for now I'm at ease with Windows Vista.

As for Dell when they start creating notebooks that look halfway decent I'll recommend them to people. Until then though I'm afraid I'd suggest HP first and then Toshiba or Gateway 2nd...

Sony has some nice looking laptops but they're grossly overpriced.

Hmmmmm. I have never had something really bad happen to my 1530..

It, was my first lappy and I looked at the other brands...I simply chose the 1530 because I was comfy with it over the others. It's strong, solid, sexy and a nice piece of machine that works for me ;) :)

Everyone can *agree to disagree* on things...thats good...it's just the output and outcome of it! :)

And, I will continue to recommend Dell's to others.....Since, I own one and that's really the only brand I know for a lappy ;) :)

Yeah I saw a Studio 15 at Best Buy... a couple of them actually. They looked kind of thick in the back. And I'm not a big fan of the glossy plastic either. But the real dealbreaker for me was the keyboard... just lots of keyboard flex.

I am also a Studio 15 owner and I agree with atbnet I think that dell built this one right I mean for the price. Sure it could be thinner but then I would have an XPS and would have cost alot more, with my specs (listed in sig) I paid $958. For an XPS with similar specs it would cost at least $400 more. so I think I will go ahead take the one that's a lil bit thicker and save a lot of money. as for the design I think it beats anything that is out right now. but that's just my opinion

At least someone else is happy!
I love mine, and after a few minor niggles with his AverMedia Nano (which I fixed in a matter of minutes, and has nothing to do with Dell), my Dad loves his too.
One thing I'll say is that for some reason his tangerine orange Studio looks bigger than mine... (Jet black)

    Nice to hear! ;) :)

Do you think it's the sharp color of the Tangerine Orange that make's it look bigger? I'm just curious, cuz I really like that color & have a friend that may be investing in a lappy, but doesnt want to get the same one that I have!! ;) :) Yeah, I know:  :D

LMAO! How about color-coordinated lids...slide them off & change according to your mood & viewing pleasure!~ :p  :D ;)

OH Yeah: and since most of the colors are nice (including the Tangerine orange..if that came out for the I9 ~ I would *snap* that up) This is a great definition of the word Phat:

    Phat
slang : highly attractive or gratifying : excellent <a phat beat moving through my body — Tara Roberts>

So essentially you are all carrying sweet looking lappy's and look *Phat*

Oh lulz. :) :D

The Jet black model I ordered had a bad screen so I went looking and ending up with a Ruby Red model and I like the flavor it adds. I thought it might be too bright and stand out, but it is a nice dark red. I would think the orange would look decent too. The images on the website really don't do this laptop any justice.

Studio 15 ftw!! hihihi.. and like mentioned before, to each his/her own. Some find dells nice, others not. Some have had bad experiences, and vice versa.

I for one like my new laptop. Its my first dell and so far no problems. Hopefully it lasts.

I don't have a problem with the looks of the Studio Dells. For fifteen/seventeen inch machines, they're pretty slick.

Problem is, fifteen and seventeen inch machines can only be so svelte. If you want small and thin, you're looking in the wrong place. You need to be looking in the twelve to fourteen inch range if you're looking for a small, slim, machine.

They don't call this sized machine a desktop replacement for nothing.

I missed this post, but this would be a great idea. This way it would be easier to swap out a color if the one you ordered wasn't exactly what you thought it would be. And you could feel like Tangerine Orange one day, Ruby Red or Spring Green the next. The Studio Hybrid already has this ability, so I don't see why not for notebooks too.

I like the hinge look of Dell's laptop. It looks more "reinforced" than the typical hinge look. I was looking at the Sony VAIO fw (I think that's the model), but Dell gave me more bang for the buck. Hope the bang doesn't bite back

Yes, it would be a super idea! Even though I just learned from someone, about the Studio Hybrid's capabilities ;) :)

Yes, TOrange for Monday, Ruby Red for Tuesday, and Purple the next and so forth! LOL ;) :)

It would just be cool! ;) :)

    Cin ;) :)

That's one of the reason's I went with Dell, besides the look of my lappy..but the cost savings ;) :)

And, I don't think the *bang will bite yah back* LOL ;) :)

My 20 inch HDX seems thinner than the Studio 15. It's as if they didn't even try. I'm not saying my huge beast is thin, but I just remember being at BEstBuy and laughing out loud at how fat it gets near the hinge - like it has a huge @ss or something....huge cheap plasticy @ss.
