Hey all.. So i bought a refurb Studio 1555 for my mother in law and the back cover of the memory hdd etc wasn't seated right so i opened to reseat it. Turns out one of the antenna cables was stuck between a plastic and the cover so that i fixed. But i noticed this WPAN device next to the WLAN card.
So sorry if it's too noob but wth is WPAN, what is it used for and do i really need it ? I know it's wireless personal area network from google, but i just don't get what's the use and why is it inside ? i didn't even see it in the config of the lappy

That is correct but its different Bluetooth card that the one you use to connect mouse, mobile phone etc. It’s more a network card.

WPAN slot can be equipped with Dell Wireless 370 which supports bluetooth 2.1 or newer Dell Wireless 375 which is bluetooth 3.0 spec. You also could put another Mini-PCIe formfactor wireless card for 802.11n or whatever if you wanted...

WPAN is Wireless Personal Area Network AKA Bluetooth.

The range of BT is about 30 feet (max), so it makes sense to be called a "Personal Area Network."

I just never saw a bt module like that. I've opened lots of laptops and never seen such a card.

Yeah, most times they are pretty small and can be fit almost in any nook or cranny in the casing. I guess they felt they had plenty of room to fit a bigger card.
