    Wrong xp version reinstallion disc

    The reinstallation disc that came with my inspiron 9400 had windows media center 2005 writen on top of it, but it turned out to be 2002 when I installed it....................................any one else?

    This is pretty common with XP MCE. I'm not sure about the different versions of MCE, but I don't think you got the wrong disc. I've had a few users ask me about this but I don't have an answer.

    Actually Microsoft in all their stupidity didn't update the System applet to show the correct version. Check here and it will show the actual version installed.

    First load up Media Center then...
    Settings -> General -> About Media Center -> Software Version

    It should show version 2005 there.

    The only difference between the versions are the updates that are preinstalled I think. Just run Windows Update and you're set.

    I don't even think MCE was out in 02, I believe it's first year was 05. Just some text somewhere that was never updated.

    like said before, Microsoft did not update the system info part but in reality you have 2005. If you can't join a domain you have 2005

    I had a Toshiba 5205-S605 that I purchased in 03 and it came with MCE 2002. Then when MS updated in 04, I got an update disk from Toshiba to bring MCE up to date. In 05, MS actually added some newer features to the OS and updated it...there are differences that are noticable. MCE has been around that long
