    Hi,
I have a dell x300 laptop and I am running Ubuntu Linux. It works very well.
But the X300 have a bad battery and I am using the AC/DC all the time.
Today I lost current and the X300 went on the battery. In few minutes, the battery was drained and the X300 went down. After connecting to AC/DC again noting happen.
I cant re-boot and the computor seems to be in some sort of sleeping mode.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks, Jörgen

Ooh. Ugh. So you mean if you hold down the power button for half a minute, still it won't power off?

Have you tried removing the battery and unplugging the computer, waited for like a minute, and then plugged it back in? That will probably solve its problem.

I can power off, but when I power on again, nothing happens (The start LED works)
The X300 seems to be in sleeping mode.

I have done "everything", removed the battery, disconnected the internal battery, the hard drive works in an older dell etc.

Try pulling out the battery, unplug it from the outlet, and hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Then see if it works.

    thanks :) Done that to.
It could be the motherboard. I have contacted Dell support in Sweden.

sounds like a surge fried the computer. computers are one of the only things not protected from electrical surges, even with a surge protector.

Could it be a loose power connector? I had a laptop that displayed similar problems that had a loose power connector. It ran on battery, but not while plugged in and died completely when the battery was drained.

Yes, it could be a surge that fried the computer.
The fan works, HD gets power, a CD spinns in the media bay.
THE LED for AC/DC is on, but in the begining the LED was out. After about 10 sec the LED faded in and then out (every 10 sec). I drained the battery and after that the LED is on as normal.
I will let you know what dell support says.
