Hi All: As a newbie, I am hoping someone could help out. I am going to purchase a Dell Inspiron 5100. My first notebook. The only question I have right now is which display I should purchase. The package comes with a 15" XGA TFT Display (1024 x 768) but I am thinking of upgrading ($100 more) to a SXGA (1400 x 1050). The Dell rep told me it would mean a brighter, cripser and more vibrant display. I use Photoshop and Microsoft Digital Image Pro for digital scrapbooking. Does any know if it's worth it and would I see a big difference.
Greatly appreciate any help!!

Oh absolutely you'd see benefit by going to this display, XGA is really the low end of Dell's offerings now and stepping up to the SXGA would be highly recommended. Dell also offers a UXGA screen but some thing that the resolution on that is almost too high, i.e. it's hard to read the text things get so small and crisp. However, the SXGA falls right in the middle where it's better than XGA (you'll fit more on the screen, it's more crisp and overall better display) but it isn't so ridiculously hi-res that the text is too small.
If it's in the budget, take the step up!

Wonderful!! Thanks so much for the quick reply. It's in the budget and I will now upgrade. [

That is a C-note well spent.

Is it possible to run the 1024x768 (for gaming) resolution on SXGA+ without distorting your image? I've heard that video cards such as the ATI Radeon 9000 can help to correct the distortion but the images will not be as clear and crisp as the native resolution. Would SXGA+ offer both the benefits of a more crisp picture, better viewing angles and the ability to play games at lower resolution?

LCD's will be blurry if not run at their native resolution. Your games should run on the higher res without issue.
