media center has 'enhanced media capabilities' and Pro has enhanced security and domain login functionality.

there's a thread on home v mce v pro if you do a search

MCE is basically Pro without the domain login functionality (this can apparently be hacked back in, if for some reason you want it) and with the media enhancements. Since MCE is free, and Pro is 129 extra on Dell's site, then I'd say MCE is the way to go.

Well, if Windows MCE is based on Home then why when I reinstalled it on my brand new E1505 (with the Dell supplied disk) did it say "Installing Windows XP Professional"? It never once even mentioned MediaCenter, which is why until it finished installing I thought I had the wrong disk, but once it installed it was most definitely MCE. It's been documented in numerous threads here that MCE is based on pro and that the only "Pro" option missing is the domain login, which can be hacked back in.

Actually after further research, you are correct. It is based off Pro. I withdraw my previous statement.
