Would it be possible (cause any problems) if I used the XP reinstallation CD that came with my Dell Notebook on my Dell Desktop?

I can't find the reinstall CD that came with my desktop and I want to reformat so...

if you know serial # for desktop, then yes for sure. If you still are running desktop, then you can easily find serial.

OEM versions should be set up that you can't activate them on different computer; but I've heard that you still can install them on same brand... no guarantees there.

Do you mean the serial number to run XP?

If the CD came from Dell then yes, you can install that OS on any Dell computer without the key.
