    Dear All,

    I have purchased an Inspiron 1546 for a customer, which comes with Vista Home Premium and my customer needs XP loaded. I attempted to install XP and found that the installation 'blue screens' about 6 pages into the installation. On passing the service tag to the Dell Support team, they tell me that XP is not supported on this machine.

    Anyone know how to get around this problem, albeit not supported by Dell?

    TX in advance

    Maurice

    {Edit - correction - Model is a Dell Inspiron 1545}

    Change the SATA setting in the bios from AHCI to IDE. What it is set to from the factory is supported by Vista but not XP. Those techs are morons because you can order the 1545 with XP and you can download XP drivers for this laptop from Dell.

    I believe the BIOS setting is from AHCI to ATA, I'll power down my machine in a moment to confirm; just want to make sure you have it correct.
    XP is only supported in some countries (the option for XP is only available in some countries), although they've put the drivers up for all.

    EDIT: Confirmed, the options are Disabled | ATA | AHCI. Change it to ATA to be able to install XP. You could also slipstream the drivers onto your XP disk, but to be honest most people wouldn't notice the difference to having AHCI switched on.
