    XP on a Dell

    So im gonna order my 1420 this weekend but id much rather have XP and they do not even give you a choice.. If i call them would they switch vista to XP for me?

    Doubt it. XP is on it's way out the door. Doesn't hurt to try though

    Vista forces you pretty much to get 2 gigs of ram or else it wont be as effective.. which annoys me i was planning on geting 1.5g 1.5-2gigs with i think 75$+ which is a horrible deal.

    Ram is cheaper after market... just get the lowest ammount and then check your favorite online parts store and you can upgrade the ram for cheaper then what dell charges. Vista is a very misunderstood operating system. I was sceptical before I was certified on it, but afterwards, it is a great operating system. You only need the RAM if you want to run all of the pretty Aero and all of that stuff. Otherwise it will run on lower end systems.
