I've had my 1420 for 2 days now and I must say I am extremely happy with my purchase. I replaced my aging Inspiron 6000 with this one and it's a step up in every way.

The laptop came loaded with Vista which only stayed installed long enough for me to boot up once and check for problems. Then I nuked Vista and loaded XP. I run a lean and mean install of XP with all un-needed services disabled, performance options for appearance and no auto updates, no system restore, no extra crap. This thing is amazingly fast!!!!

The screen is a ton brighter and sharper than my ultrasharp on my I6000 was. The notebook is also about a pound and a quarter lighter as well as more compact. With XP on this thing it's COMPLETELY SILENT. The fan only comes on maybe once every 15 minutes or so and even then it's really quiet and goes off after about 20 seconds.

I am getting almost exactly 3 hours 45 minutes at 75% brightness, all websurfing through wireless with the 6 cell battery. I would guess the Vista people wont get near that number though.

Dell shipped mine out 8 days before the advertised ship date too which was cool. It was just under 1K with tax for my system.

    I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER!

*Oh and the brown outer shell color is really tight!*
