In my search for a solution to the dcp latency spikes for my UK 1750 (2.2 T6600, 4gb, 500rpm, dedicated Radeon graphics, etc), I managed to set up a dual boot with XP, but was stymied by the lack of an XP driver for the IDT HD sound card, and SMbus device driver.

Has anyone managed the above, and what files were they using ?
Although there were posts using modified 1545 infs, they didn't work for me.

    TIA.

I help my friend tried install XP on this type of laptop. We stopped after 2 hours. Windows 7 is as good or better than XP. You can get XP mode in Windows 7 pro and ultimate. 2. Also as you said, can't find the drivers. I'm sure someone has done it, but it was probably more trouble than its worth.

I had everything going apart from the soundcard.

Unfortunately XP didn't solve the problem anyway, which is the 16 second spikes :-(

IDT is the new name for what used to be SigmaTel. It's possible that some of the old SigmaTel drivers for Dell XP laptops will work for this model as well. I believe the Inspiron 1720 was the last supported (Inspiron) laptop from Dell to officially support XP. You can try its driver. Another good spot to look for drivers is the Latitude/Precision laptops - nearly all of them still support XP, and if you can find one with IDT audio, its driver just might do the trick.

If XP didn't solve the problem even with soundcard drivers, it sounds like there may be a problem with your sound card, which probably would be covered by warranty (if still in effect). Another (fairly) quick check is to run a Linux live CD (such as Ubuntu) and seeing if it causes the same problem when playing your music files. If the problem still persists, you've all but certainly got a hardware problem.

The soundcard plays back OK even with W7. It's just when I'm using an ASIO driver for the IDT (ASIO4ALL), or my EMU 0404 USB2 (it's own ASIO drivers), I get pops and crackles at anything under a 256 buffer.
