Are penryn processors compatible with the XPS M1530? If i want to upgrade in a year or so will this be possible or is the socket on the motherboard different? I do not really want to pay for one now but if my xps comes with a bad screen and i send it back i wonder if i should order a penryn with the replacement. If it comes with a good screen im keeping it and want to know if i can upgrade processor later.

The MB should be compatible with the Penryn processor if you want to upgrade at a later time. Its will just be a PITA to switch them out, but thats if you're not extremely comfortable with taking apart your notebook. If you get a bad screen, I would suggest upgrading to the latest greatest. I however doubt that you would be able to significantly tell the difference between your processor, and a Penryn processor. Thats just my .2 cents.
