I received my XPS M170 almost a week ago. I checked all of the light leakage posts on this board and decided that I have a "moderate" light leakage on my screen. However, it is getting better every day. I can easily say that it is minimal now. I checked some other forums to see if I can find the technical explanation of this matter but did not find anything. I think the new LCD screen is getting used to its operating temprature. Anyone knows the explanation of this issue? Other than that, I have no dead-pixels.

    Spec: Pentium® M Processor 760 (2 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
    1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
    60GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
    256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7800 GTX
    17" WUXGA LG

    Here are some comments:

Performance: The performance is !!AWESOME!! I've always been a desktop fan, but this machine changed the whole idea. Out of the package, I got a 3dmark 2003 score of 14,470. I can't wait to reinstall XP, clean and optimize. I will keep track of different benchmark measures each step I take in this optimization process. I will post my findings in couple weeks.

Battery: This is a desktop replacement. Don't expect anything from its battery life ;)

Screen: I have an LG screen and it has awesome colors. As I stated before I had moderate leakage at the begining but it is almost gone now. I heard bad comments on LG screens but I need to give them some credit. WUXGA screen rocks :D

Gaming Performance: I only play mmorpgs (Dark Age of Camelot and Ever Quest 2). I have to admit that I feel like I'm playing a new game with this new system. My previous computer had a x700pro 256mb and it can't even be compared to 7800GTX  I think I still need to upgrade to 2 gig ram to have better performance. Mmorpgs usually require a huge amount of ram to play at high settings in crowded areas.

Heat and Noise: I was expecting it to be louder for a desktop replacement. It is quiet if you compare it with other desktop replacements. However, it is not quiet like my Compaq Presario (biz. lap.)

Experience with Dell: I did not have any problems. Very fast delivery. Great condition. Accurate package tracking.

I also received my free Dell DJ Ditty but I am not impressed with it. I would prefer a creative nano/muvo.

I didn't start this post to make a complete review but I wanted to share my experience with people who are looking for a desktop replacement laptop. :)

They couldn't deliver my E1705 that I ordered in February so they offered me a $750 discount towards XPS M170 (customer retention :p ). That spec + 1 year accidental damage warranty + dell dj ditty + personalized cover (just to protect) + dvd writer (it wasn't free at that time) = $1,400 :D
