I dont know if this is new but you can configure the 1210 on dell japan. Now I counldnt read alot of the configuration page (lol) but I was able to add the 7400 on the system with 1.6ghz dual core, 512 ram, 80 gb 5400 rpm hd for 166000 yen which equals just under 1500$ U.S.

A higher end system with a 2.0 ghz dual core, 1 gb ram, 100 gb 5400rpm hd, and the 7400 costs just under two thousand

Interestingly the 1.83 ghz dual core was not an option

    This is great news!

I'm sure the U.S. XPS M1210 will be cheaper by $100-$200. Perhaps even less with coupons. I could see it starting at $999 with the Intel 950 GMA and a single core CPU. But then a core duo + 7400 would be another $200-300. This is just my guess but we will see when it comes out. ;)

Yes, i would expect it to be $1100 with Core duo, and lower specs. This being, Dell wont release a 12 inch notebook with those specs, at almost the price of a m1710 (well, sort of)

Dell Japan pricing is very weird.
Some models are cheaper than USA.

Like what models? And did you factor in coupons? I think the Dell U.S. site has by far the best deals on notebooks compared to any other countriesÂ’ Dell site.

Pricing is off in different countries all the time. I just checked Dell Honduras and they have the base M1710 (previous XPS was never available down here) at $1899 and at the US at $2600....that's $700 off. I didn't bother to check the specs but they should be similar, I did see that Honduran website had 1.83 GHZ Core Duo, 1GB RAM, 7900 GS, and 80GB HDD. I would expect about the same at the US...but $700 difference?

    Dude...tell me about it...

On top of that, we don't get nearly the kinds of coupons you guys in the US do.

Anyhoo, I just priced the following XPS 1210. Note that all "+...yen" remarks are additional costs from standard/base option prices.

*WinXP Pro SP2 Japanese (no English options available that I could see), +18,000 yen
*Virus Buster 12 PC Security 15 month subscription (was either this or McCaffe, no option for "don't want P.O.S. bloatware"), +4,725 yen
    *4-year extended warranty, +9,975 yen
*Core Duo T2500 (2GHz) CPU (T2300 only other option), +22,000 yen
*12.1" TFT TruLife WXGA screen w/ built-in camera (only other option was w/o cam), +5,000 yen
*1GB (512x2) DDR2 SDRAM (not sure if it's 533 or 667, & yeah, its a rip off, but cheap no name memory is hard to come by where I live in BFE Hokkaido. BTW, this puppy can handle up to 4GB of RAM(!), but popping in 2 2-gig sticks'll jack your total price up over 600,000 yen!), + 16,800 yen
*7200RPM 100GB SATA HDD (is it true that you guys in the states really can't get 7200 drives?), +13,000 yen
    *DVD+/-RW DL (standard option)
*9 cell battery (required if you want the Go7400), +3,000 yen
*Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG internal WLAN mini-card (only other option was the Dell 1390 for 1,000 yen less), +6,000 yen
*Dell Wireless 350 Internal Bluetooth module, +2,000 yen
*Combined NVIDIA GeForce Go7400 256MB DDR Turbocache (takes up to 192MB from main memory) & Intel 945 (similar to some of the new Sony's it seems, where you can switch back & forth from dedicated to onboard graphics depending on task), +11,000 yen
*Japanese keyboard (standard option...extra keys for dealing w/ kanji, hiragana & katakana, although English keyboard also available for same price)
*4-year complete care, including theft, +14,700 yen

    *Free shipping

    *Pre-tax Total: 236,615 yen
*11,830 yen consumption tax (we pay 5% on any & everything here, but no prefectural or national sales tax)

    *Grand Total: 248,445 yen (US$ 2203.15 accordinig to XE.com as of 10AM, May 25, 2006)

Pricey? Yeah, a bit, especially seeing as there's no coupons for it yet, whatsoever (it is brand spanking new, afterall). At the same time though, you're getting one helluva nice system that'll no doubt last you a few years.

As a matter o' fact, I'd had my eye on the Inspiron 6400 for a while to replace my aging I8500, but now that this slick little puppy's out, may just go for the 1210 instead.

Oh yeah...final side note. Since I live here & run Japanese XP, if anybody'd like a translation of any of the Dell Japan sites, just lemme know.

    Cheers,

    HH ;)
