I am getting my third motherboard replacement next week :(

    1. The first motherboard got toasted! replaced two weeks ago.

    2. The replacement motherboard came with a defective sound card (the left channel is silent). Replaced last week!

    3. My third motherboard produces this high pitch noise and the pitch changes as CPU load change. lol (my computer sings)

Hopefully my fourth mobo won't have any problems.

man is there something wrong with motherboards in the new xps m1210 systems or what....

    it's scaring me.

btw, when they put in the new motherboard, did they apply more thermal paste as well or did they just stick the heatsink back on?

    thanks

The replacement boards were not new. My computer was purchased last september and it came with BIOS version A04.

The replacement board came with BIOS A03 so it is actually a quite old board!

The Dell Technician wanted to put the heatsink back on directly, since my motherboard was replaced once only 3 days before, but I asked him to reapply the thermal paste. (He's a nice old man and of course he did ^_^)

    Sounds like a PITA.

Dell mobos get fried pretty often - I have had some issues in the past with a 600m and a e1405. Usually it doesn't happen for a few months, though!

    Pain in the @$$

when my motherboard was reinstalled, it said "refurbished" on the motherboard. What's the likelihood of it actually being a refurbished?

the tech told me it wasn't really refurbished, dell just has to sell it that way because of the packaging.

also, is it possible to get the part and install it yourself without the technician? My tech seems very rugged when he handles my notebook. He puts everything together and it sounds like he's breaking some things... it just doesn't really make me feel comfortable.

Maybe they take out working motherboards from returned M1210s. Returned because of customer dissatisfaction or due to complete care warranty replacements (cracked screens etc..). Just a guess.

LOL, those guys can be little careless at times :p.

@ Percybut, hope your 4th one will be the last ;)
