I bought an XPS 1210 back in September. It's a great little laptop. I upgraded it to 2 GBs of ram and shes been cooking ever since. The only issue is I have a 60GB hard drive and its just way to small. I'm going to order a 320 GB drive off newegg. Should I re-install Vista when I get it or install XP. Next question, would it be worth upgrading to the 2.16 GHz Dual-Core (T7400) with 4MB of L2 cache over my current 1.83 GHz (T5600) Dual-Core with 2MB L2 cache?

yes the cpu upgrade is long overdue and just reinstall vista, this will avoid any driver issues.

Wow, didn't think an extra 2MBs of cache and 330Mhz would make to much of a differece but seems like it would then? Just to let you know my current processor (T5600) is a core 2 due. I just want to know if it's worth the $340 for the T7400?

I wish I could. The 1210s can only take Socket M processors.

I'd say go for the processor upgrade, and since the m1210's originally shipped with XP, there should be plenty of drivers available if you wanted to go that route.

    It's just personal choice, really.

I'd stick with Vista since you already have a key for it. XP will work on it though no problem, my M1210 came with XP MCE. You might as well go with the upgrades if you have the money and are able to do them.

Does anyone know of any documentation for the processor upgrade on the 1210? I've looked around but could not find anything.
