After attempting to negotiate with sales people, I was still unable to get any discounts. My configuration is as follows:

    Processor Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T8300 (2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB/3MB cache)
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista® Ultimate Edition, English
    System Color Midnight Blue
Memory 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
LCD and Camera Standard Display with 2.0 Megapixel Webcam
    Video Card 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 8400M GS
Hard Drive 200G 7200RPM SATA HDD
    CD ROM/DVD ROM 8X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW Drive)
    Wireless Networking Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Mini-card
Primary Battery 56Whr Lithium Ion Battery (6 cell)
Hardware Support Services 3 Year Return to Depot Service and Technical Support
    Fingerprint Reader Biometric Fingerprint Reader
Bluetooth Options Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)

    Sub-total $1,549.00 CAD after a $289+$50 discount.

I'm still debating whether I should purchase the CompleteCare warranty for an extra $170. Also, I'm not sure if the LED screen is worth an extra $150. Any suggestions to the configuration?

Try asking for 1GB Ram instead of 2GB and buy more somewhere else. That should knock ~$70 off the price which would allow you to buy 3GB. It is almost same config as my M1530 except better CPU and lower GPU than me. My config was $1599 w/ 2GB Ram and $1529 w/1GB Ram. I'd say that's a decent price you got. Not sure if the LED screen is worth $150 myself, I'd probably pass on that. And I passed on the complete care and got 3yr RTD like you.

I wanted the red colored XPS, but it'd cost an extra $50 since it doesn't have the $50 discount...sucks. I'll try negotiating with Dell again..it's just really frustrating when I have to say "pardon?" every 2-3 sentences.

I agree about going with the 1 gig of ram instead of 2 and then upgrading it yourself. I am also wondering, why are you going for Vista Ultimate? Vista Business has similar options at a lower price.

I tried to get the sales person to downgrade my Vista and ram, but they are standing pretty firm that whatever is configurable online is what is available and there are no other options. argh.

Just ordered my M1330. Hopefully it will have no problems. I decided to add the CompleteCare in case I drop the laptop or bang it against stuff when I'm commuting. Estimated ship date: 2/28/08
