I'm not sure, but I think you can go 5400 with the m1330.

Both will work fine; as long as both have a lifetime warranty (which they do), you shouldn't worry. The PNY doesn't list CAS latency but I'm 90% sure it's 5, just like the Patriot.

I would get the PNY for the price.

5400 and 5300 are the same; just depends on how the manufacturer rounds.

The Patriot is 1 x 2 GB and the PNY is 2 X 1GB. That's why the PNY is cheaper. If all you want is 2 gigs total, then go with the PNY.

that 1 gig is probably 2x512megs
the laptop has 2 slots for ram

    your options would be:
buy a 1gb stick and have 1.5gb of ram (and a 512 stick to sell)
buy 2 1gb sticks and have 2gb of ram (and have 2 512 sticks to sell)
buy a 2gb stick and have 2.5gb ram (and a 512 stick to sell)
buy 2 2gb sticks and have 4gb of ram (and have 2 512 sticks to sell)
