Hi
Dell is selling the XPS 1330 in some countries with Ubuntu.
I am very interested in this. Since I don't mind buying a Windows license , cause I wanna use this for gaming - I am very interested in getting an XPS with Windows and installing Ubuntu (64bit!) myself. Anybody experience with this? They gotta have all the drivers, right?
Do they have a special version of Ubuntu or how does it work?
Cheers

Yes, it's possible to have both Ubuntu and Windows Vista 64 bit editions installed on separate partitions and choose between them at boot up. I have that setup on the desktop I'm using at the moment (currently in Ubuntu). I did just what you proposed by resizing my windows partition then installing Ubuntu in the empty space. Just Google for install guides.
As for Dell Ubuntu, I'm fairly sure it's just regular Ubuntu with dell drivers/software installed. I don't see why you couldn't just find these on the Dell website. My advise: go for it. Ubuntu does take some setting up, but its nothing anyone with OK to good computer literacy can't handle.

Yes, I am not scared of Ubuntu. I run a number crunching server with SUSE 10. Not that I configured a lot for it. Just need matlab 64bit and a big samba raid for data storage. That's all that is really running on the server. The Notebook will have a quite different job. But I just read that Adobe CS2 runs via wine, so I am happy to give it a try.
One of the major reasons for the Dell XPS1330 is the fact that it is sold with Ubuntu - which in turn means the drivers are available, which isn't granted for other new notebooks.
And since it it open GPL Dell will have to make them available...

Check this Linux section of these forums, there's a thread dedicated to the XPS M1330 and Linux.
