Its a pretty expensive laptop starting at 1299 with some pretty mediocre specs.
from what i can gather it has the following pros
1) small size but not as small as the previous generation XPS 1210
2) optional LED backlight screen
3) optional finger print reader
i'm out

one of the lightest laptops (for a 13.3) in the world... XPS support... are a few more things.
-
Don't forget the style.
It's also thinner than the XPS m1210.
So consider the style and portability is the premium you would be paying for.
Of course you can get a better system for less, but I'd doubt you would find a similar notebook in the same category with such style, portability and design. -
so around 4lbs instead of a little over 5 lb for a 1420 or vostro 1400.
-
... and still cheaper than a Sony.
-
if you carry your notebook around a lot, every pound counts
-
i guess i'm just not style conscious enough, when i see a picture of a 1330 i just see it as a smaller version of 1420.
-
that's why I want it
but I'm smart enough to wait until it's under a grand -
It has desktop replacement hardware which a lot of ultra portables don't.
It ticks almost all the boxes for the perfect ultra portable..with gaming potential
Except for the minor problems people have like 2 usb ports (SO!!!) and no docking station its the perfect laptop in my eyes. -
its much thinner (I think) than that....
oh... and it has HDMI (with possible Audio) -

Indeed the m1330 has amazing specs for such an ultraportable system.
If you are comparing the m1330 with the 1420, it's not the same comparison.
The m1330 is as thin as 0.86" in the thinnest part. It's also starts at 4lbs weight and hold specs that rival that of the 1420. It also has HDMI port, which sadly the Inspirons don't have.
The closest competition for the m1330 is the Sony SZ model, which the Sony SZ has not released their newer version with the Santa Rosa platform. And the m1330 has better specs with better dedicated graphics.
The Sony SZ is also priced quite similar to the m1330. So I'd bet the m1330 would be the better deal. -

lol oh yeah one con for the 1330
thinner, lighter= easier to steal -
-
also i like to know how all you soon to be 1330 owners carry your laptops?
i usually carry either by hand, bag or in a backpack and didn't think my inspiron 1501 was any harder to carry than my 12inch 700m -
Depends, I'd prefer a handbag with a strap so it'd hold my notepads and my notebook. -
... for my old notebook, i used to put it into a sleeve and carry it in my bookbag. It was a bad idea... I think i'm gonna get a padded book bag this time.
-
if you don't see any difference b/n carrying a 700m and a 1501, you don't want to spend extra on 1330.

Lets face it...the M1330 is to Dell what the Iphone is to Apple. Its Dells flagship...its their proof that they are willing to move with customer needs and wants.
For the most part, this system was put together through our suggestions right from its inception.
Now...if you wonder whats so good about it...look at it this way. It is the ONLY 13" ultraportable (being under 4 lbs) using the Santa Rosa platform, therefore, it now becomes the most powerful and efficient 13" ultraportable available.
Not to mention its good looks. lol -
-
it also has the benifit of being less power consuming for its increase in performance..

Dell had nothing in that size category, thus the m1330 is making a huge splash.
In the past few years, only three major brands even had 13.3" notebooks, them being Fujitsu, Sony and ASUS. Fujitsu has been declining in notebooks and quantity for a while now, therefore it was mainly Sony and ASUS. Obvious Sony had the advantage with their brand name and availability, so it dominated that area by itself - A perfect blend of power between a 12" and 14" was the Sony SZ. ASUS had their R1f tablet 13.3", W7 13.3" powerhouse and barebone Z35 - however, not being a household name nor available retail, it did not sell as much as the SZ.
Dell joining this group will result in a boom of 13.3" availability and competition, mainly with the SZ. They'll fight for top spot, and it gets even more complicated with the ASUS U3, yet another 13.3" from them, though not retail as usual. Dell, however, had the upper hand in availability, financing options and pricing, and well, until the SZ/U3 have been released(then again, the m1330 could be barely considered as 'released')
There'll be lots of interesting comparisons once the S.R. SZ comes out(ETA unknown) and the U3(August). -
well theres macbooks too. I can't believe i'm saying this, a Macbook is actually more cost efficient than the 1330.

Erm hlcc you seem like you have run out of things to argue and have to bring up a macbook, just for the sakes of arguement lol
No harm done, back to topic
The m1330 in my opinion is so special because :
1. Thin & light with best GPU in a 13.3 (8400GS - im going bring this to my lan parties, and run photoshop & 3D Max during class in uni)
2. LED screen with 300 nits of brightness which is important if your using it in a bright day. More brightness + less power consumption = FTW
3. Cheaper then sony.
4. love the battery life ( was considering a zepto, but the battery life was not good enough for me 1-2hrs)
5. Design - looks better than most laptops available now.
6. Point 1 to point 5 all together in the same laptop = my almost perfect laptop. -
