EDIT: if anyone is interested, here are the weights of the three different batteries Dell offers on the XPS 1330
* 4-cell: 192.5 grams
* 6-cell: 330 grams
* 9-cell: 480 grams
hi, i just bought a xps 1330, but before they send it to me i am thinking about ordering a second battery unit. the one i got is the 9-cell battery. i know it sticks out of the computer on the back, but i dont mind. what i mind about is weight.
i know that the 9-cell battery will weight more than the 4-cell or the 6-cell ones, but how much?
this is my question, has anybody weighted the batteries alone? i would love to see how much each one weights and thus decide if it is worth to order a second battery or not.
pd: posting in metric system is a plus![]()
pd2: although interesting sometimes, i discourage anybody from posting total notebook weight, since it depends not only on the battery but on the whole configuration and it would be almost worthless on a pure batery weight comparison
pd3: thanks a lot!!!!!
-
I guess about 50% heavier. 3 cells more.
-
0.48 kg (1.06 lb) (9 cell)
0.33 kg (0.7 lb) (6 cell)
That's directly of Dell's site. Dont' know about the 4 cell, they don't seem to list it. -
anyway, it could be true that the 4-cell weights 0.25 kgs, and that would mean that the 9-cell weights twice as much as the 4-cell.
now, if only somebody could confirm the 4-cell batery weight... -
No offense, but I think the 4-cell battery would be pretty useless to have. Get a 6 and 9-cell and you'll be set.
Depending if you chose the integrated or discrete graphics option, I believe the 4-cell will not work with anything except the integrated option. -
I agree personally I would get the 9 cell -
i have a 9-cell batery, but i would like to be able to make the lightest build possible with this computer, that is why i am asking about the 4-cell batery. i am not going to buy a 6-cell batery because the difference with the 9-cell one is only 150 grams. and as i said, i do not mind the 9-cell batery getting outside of the notebook.
if the 4-cell batery is less than 250 grams, then i'll consider buying it so that i have 2 options: not-so-light but great performance and light-as-air but shorter batery time.
seeing the weight of the 6-cell one, it is out of the question. it is not worth to me spending money just for 150 grams. -
IMO, the trade-off of weight to battery life with the 4-cell isn't worth it at all. What's the point of having an ultra-light laptop you can only use for an hour?
-
2. taking it to my parents house to study
3. taking it to a friends home to watch a movie
4. taking it to the office to make a backup of all the personal data i have there
5. who needs 5? -
Dell do not list the 4-Cell battery as a configurable option if you opt for the Nvidia GPU.
-
-
You didn't stipulate either way, you ungrateful ass. I was making the point that had you the Nvidia GPU, not even Dell would recommend you buying an additional 4-Cell battery for the purpose of saving weight.
-
as i said, the 4-cell battery is mainly for transporting the computer to other places where i wont need the battery so much or at all
dont get me wrong, i am not ungrateful, it is just that i asked a very particular question, and most replies so far have been advertisements to not get the 4-cell battery and have overlooked completely the question on the OP. -
2. Perhaps you only study for short periods of time?
3. Most movies are a couple hours. Hope your battery doesn't die half way through.
4. Hope you don't have a lot to backup. Would hate for your battery to die half way through.
5. I could go on.....
There are more pros than cons to having extra battery life. Guaranteed if you get the 4 cell and it dies halfway through a study session/movie/whatever, you'll be pissed off and complain that Dell puts out faulty batteries! -
-
jeezzzzz, is it so difficult to understand? i just want to know how much does a 4-cell battery weight. if you do not wish, or can not, help me, at least refrain from repeating the same all the time. i know the batery hardly last 1'5 hours with the 4-cell batery. i said it 2 posts ago. but it is ok to me, it will not be my main battery, it will just be used as a side battery to fit whenever i need to carry the computer someplace i know i will be able to plug it. -
You're trying to cut down the weight of your laptop......but then you don't mind carrying around the power adapter?? :confused2:
Use the bigger battery and forget having to take your power adapter with you. I bet if you weigh the 4 cell battery and power adapter, it won't be much less than the 9 cell.
Is it just me, or is it a growing trend for people to try do things the most difficult and obscure way possible? -
i am not going to leave me adapter at home, not even if i take along the bigger battery. if i am going to study to my parent's house, i may need to use the computer more than 10 or 12 hours, and that is not possible without the adapter.
but since i will be taking the adapter almost everywhere, i might as well fit the lighter battery and save some weight.
now, please, leave those stupid arguments on the ground and answer my question or leave the thread. i told you much more that you or anybody needed to know to answer the question, and i wont be explaining or going into personal issues any more.
pd: that line about the spell-check was both clever and enlightening at the same time. congratulations for picking the mote on my spelling and considering not the beam on your argumentation. -
1) Unless you're telling me that you only have 1 hour of class for university everyday, I don't think 1 hour will be suffice. In this case, I assume that there are A/C outlets in your lecture rooms so that means battery is useless.
2) If you're going to your parent's house then there must be an outlet - no need for battery.
3) If you're taking it over to your friends house too watch a movie just plug it into the outlet there's no need for a battery
4) Your office prolly has an outlet too and you wouldn't want to do a backup using battery (cause if your 4 cell dies out before it finishes... DUN Dun dun) -
From using Google (ever heard of it?) I came across the following....
"# Weight: 3.97 lbs w/ 4-cell, 4.3lbs w/ 6-cell"
YOU DO THE MATH! -

You obviously didn't look very hard.

Pssst.....Spell Check! -
i guess your last 5 posts explain why after 237 posts you only got 1 rep.
have a nice day.
