XPS 15 "Delivery Preperation"

My order has been in Delivery Preparation since Saturday. I wonder how much longer until it actually ships? I have next day shipping. Can't wait...

 

That's an awful long time to put the laptop in a box and print an address label. ;-)

I ordered my XPS 15 on Friday and have an EDD of 5/5. I feel like I did in high school when I had concert tickets for my favorite band and the concert was not until the following month.

Yep it now shows shipped, I have never been so OCD about anything. I'm relieved.

 

Congratulations! I know exactly what you mean about being OCD. Mine has an EDD of 5/5, and yet I'm checking the website constantly for changes in the status. I need help.

Ever since I placed my order on 3/31 I have been like totally OCD,checking the status page and after about 10 days the manufacturing build was complete and got shipped 4/12(what a relief):yes: on express delivery, but due to state elections here on 4/13 the laptop is yet to be delivered , just hoping to get it today

 

I just ordered my XPS 15 just after midnight PST Tues, 4/12. Considering it's only been two days, with an EDD of 5/16, I've checked a ridiculous number of times. The funny thing is that the account summary page has changed order status to "Delivery Preparation" as of last night (Weds 4/13)! When I click on the order to see the full order page, it still shows "In Production," but if I click on those words, it lists out all the possible states and "Delivery Preparation" doesn't exist--it goes from "In Production" to "Shipped".

I was just searching on "Delivery Preparation" and found this. Wanted to share my experience for others to see examples. I will keep the thread updated as to what happens... Maybe I got lucky and got someone's order cancellation?!

 

My status also changed to "Delivery Preparation" today, but I ordered mine back on the 8th. Same thing happened to me when I clicked the link for order details: that page says "In Production."

I called Dell to find out what "Delivery Preparation" means and how long it will be until I get my computer. At first, the rep insisted that the info on the order details page is all he knows. Then, he put me on hold when I kept pressing, and when he came back, he told me that my machine was going into testing.

I believe testing is the final stage before boxing, and based on Scott5626's experience, I'm expecting this "Delivery Preparation" stage to take about three days. If that is the case, I should receive the beast long before the 5/5 EDD.

Geez. It seems very hit or miss with Dell. There is one guy on the " Dell XPS 15 (L502X) - Order Progress" thread who ordered on 4/9 and his order was marked shipped on 4/14. And then yours has been in delivery prep for longer than that. Please let us know when yours ships.

I wonder if they are waiting on specific parts I have the same specs as you. Perhaps the I7 2720 or the High End monitor is the hold up. Maybe the sale they had this weekend swamped them. I actually called back to upgrade from the 750 GB 7200 HD to the SSD but it was already in production an hour after I ordered it.

Well I received my XPS today. I ordered on 4-9 and recieved on 4-16 after checking the satus every day this morning it had updated to shipped. Interesting is that it showed In Delivery Preparation from 4-10 til this morning 4-16 but when I read the FED EX log it shows they reported the Package on the 13th and it was actually picked up on the 15th. My point is that the DELL web page may be a couple days behind where a pc actually is. Then again I wouldn't get your hopes up either.

Copying here to follow up with my previous post:
Order Date: 4/12/2011 (just after midnight)
Was "In Production" the next day, 4/13.
Orders summary page showed, "Delivery Preparation" as of 4/13 night.
Checked FedEx by searching by reference with the order number and zip code and shipping information was already sent as of at least 4/14 morning! Subscribed to FedEx email notification.
Got notice from FedEx Friday night, 4/15, that package was tendered to FedEx.
Saturday, 4/16 morning attempted delivery, but to my office, so no one was there!
I'm expecting to get it on Monday, 4/18!

Much better than my original EDD of 5/16...

 

Finally my lappy was delivered 4/15 and I came back today and messaging thru the same lappy

 

Just got mine delivered in my office. Here is the details of how things went.

I ordered my laptop on the August 9th, my order changed to delivery in preparation yesterday August 13th but the funny thing is I got an email from Dell saying it was shipped lol without a tracking number.. anybody had this issue before?

Also How is the laptop? since you guys used it.. do u recommend it or have any particular issues with it?

EDIT: forgot to mentioned that the EDD is August 24th

 

Dell likes to do things like this to keep us confused.
You can probably get a tracking number tomorrow. If it shipped FedEx you may be able to get a tracking number now by doing this:

Go to Global Homepage
Then, top Tab > Track > Track By Reference > Your Reference # is your Order Number, > Leave the Ship Date as is > Destination Country is US > Destination Postal Code is your Zip Code!, > Click Track!
