    Hi,

I've narrowed my search results for a new laptop to the XPS 15 and Inspiron 17R-2nd Gen.

(XPS 15) The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

(Inspiron 17R-2nd Gen) New Inspiron R Laptop (14R-15R-17R) ? Personalized Switch Lids | Dell

I don't plan on doing much gaming on the laptop but I do some freelance graphic design work on the side, and am looking for a laptop that will last me a while (the old Latitude D630 I had served me well for about 4-5 years). Aside from graphic design the laptop will primarily be used for miscellaneous school and work projects, and watching sports. Portability of the laptop is not an issue.

After discounts, adding in a backlit keyboard (may not get), and upgrading the display to 1900 x 1080 the XPS 15 comes out to $835.

I can get the Inspiron 17r-2nd Gen for $699.

Given their technical specs would I be better off getting the XPS 15 or Inspiron 17r-2nd Gen?

I guess I'm havhing trouble determining whether the XPS's superior graphics card, etc. is worth more than the difference in screen size, any help would be appreciated as I'm a complete noob when it comes to this stuff :(

    Thanks in advance!

If you're doing graphic design, definitely the XPS 15 with the 1080p B+RGLED display. That's one of the best displays in this price range in terms of color reproduction.

Also since it's got the higher resolution (Inspiron only has 1600x900) you'll be able to fit more onscreen at once than the Inspiron even though it's not as big of a screen, because items onscreen are considerably less huge due to the denser pixel count.
