I already had my Macbook Pro in my cart and was about to checkout when I decided I'd give Dell my very last try. Now that its out though I'm hesistant whether I want to buy it immediately or wait for more reviews.
-
-
Dang - beat me to it! Mod, would you merge these?
N -
lol...our deal expires in Canada 3/14 so thats prolly when they come here LOL!!!!
-
Awesome laptops Notebook Evangelist
sounds awesome do you know if penryn will come out on vostro 1500 and when for australia
-
No need to be hesitant in my opinion, plenty of other systems with Penryn in already, like the one I'm typing this from now. It really is an amazing feat in terms of reducing the amount of heat produced. For comparison my mum has a brand new m1330 with T5450 and I've got my T9300 which is nearly 1Ghz faster. I switched both machines on at the same time and left them running for 30mins, idling. I checked the core CPU temperatures for both, her T5450 at 1.66Ghz was at 46 C and my T9300 at 2.5Ghz was at 33 C!!
Oh and it's super fast.
Go for it!
-
How do you know which one's the Penryn? I bought my XPS M1530 on Saturday.
Thanks. -
T8300, T9300, T9500
-
The T9x00 chips are Penryn.
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB, 6MB Cache) [add $279 or $8/month1]
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9500 (2.6GHz/800Mhz FSB, 6MB Cache) [add $535 or $16/month1]
Personally, I think the T9300 is the sweet spot. $256 for an extra 100mhz is nuts!
This made me cancel my m15x and order one of these guys. I'm too worried about the ongoing issues with the m15x and the delays are ridiculous. And the quality of the customer service prior to the shipment makes me very worried about service after the fact, and it seems AW's "onsite" service means on their site, not yours. I know Dell has first class onsite support in my area (I've used it a time or two).

Alright, I've ordered my XPS 1530 and it costs $1700. Still its $1000 less than the Macbook Pro I was about to buy. Estimate Ship date 03/17/08; hopefully I don't regret this.
How long does it usually take for products to arrive after being shipped? I'm on the west coast. -
Not too long. Make sure you call Dell just to question your order and make sure it's all right and Dell will "Expedite" your order and end the conversation with giving you an upgrade to free next day delivery.
-
Well it took them long enough
What the m15x has had it for a month now
But i will be happy with my T7500 when i get it -
I'm totally with you on this and do it every time I order from Dell. You can even get other free stuff. With my last laptop I got them to throw in a Swiss Gear backpack, neoprene case, auto/air/ac charger, and a briefcase case. My other thread on this was closed, can someone tell me why. Sorry but I'm new here and just wanted to share the "upgrade info".
-- Choop -
m15x has that solid 8800GTX card to go along with it though
-
Wow, i am so happy!
-
I'm in the same boat. I was about to get a MBP but after i add up the discounts on both sides there ends up being a $900 difference even with the t9300. Now i feel almost obligated to get a xps 1530 even though i would rather get a MBP. With all the discounts Dell definitely gives you a lot for your money.
-
i'm like you but i am considering the m1730 instead...... yet, with these amazing discounts and another adjustment I have, I could actually get two m1530 notebooks for the price of the m1730 and still have change lol
total price for my m1730 with a 8800GTX card is $2,550
total price for my m1530 with 2.6ghz 200hd 256 8600gt bluetooth 1440x900 =$1095 4-year warranty -
How did you get the m1530 with that configuration for $1095?
-
Interesting, I will have to remember that next time.
As for the ship date, it's usually way off so you can expect it much sooner. -
Anyone want a slightly used Santa Rosa M1530?
2.4GHz, 3GB RAM, 160GB 7200RPM HDD, 1680x1050 screen, 8600M GT, Black -
Sweet I have been waiting for the penryn in the 1530 but also for the LED....
anyone know when that's coming? if its soon im gonna keep waiting for sure -
just a reminder. You can only order a penryn if you get a 8600m video card.
-
At the slow rate it took Dell to offer Penryn's in the 1530, you'll probably be waiting until June for the LED screen.
-
usually its the 13xx series to come out with everything first then the 17xx series then the 15xx series so yeah 1530 will come out with it last
-
Finally! Ordered mine. Est ship date: 3/18
-
Nice, i going to order mine in about an hour
-
FALSE ALARM!!!
Not showing up here yet:
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=DYDWHF1&s=dhs
Only showing 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GS video card requires a selection of Intel Core 2 Duo T5450, T5550, T7250, T7500, T7700, or T7800. -
Is there a technical reason for this? If I'm going to get the more powerful CPU, I would get the most powerful GPU that's offered, but I don't understand why you HAVE to get the 8600 video card if you get a Penryn CPU.
-
I clicked your link and saw the new ones. -
No false alarm. I just called in and had my order changed and confirmed. I even have the invoice:
223-5877 1 XPS M1530, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz/800MHzFSB, 6M L2 Cache)
313-5814 1 Tuxedo Black Casing XPS M1530
It is really there!! -
From the site:
128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GS video card requires a selection of Intel Core 2 Duo T5450, T5550, T7250, T7500, T7700, or T7800. -
I guess they still want to keep selling the old chip by forcing it on the people that dont want the 8600M...
-
Okay, I see... I didn't scroll down far enough. It didn't show up in the initial box, I had to scroll down farther to see it.
-
keanu: What was your system configuration?
-
I'm in the NW and it only took 7 days to get mine. See the review in my sig.
-
Rumor has it...IF you get a penryn .. and you rub it 3 times..you recieve 3 wishes...
-

Speaking of which, I'm curious if there were any other coupons I could've used to make this system any cheap that anyone would know about?
And about calling Dell to expedite my order, what would I mention to them to make that happen? Surely I can't call to say "what's up?" and please expedite the order regardless of the fact I didn't pay extra to have it shipped as quickly as possible. -
Hahaha!!! Really???

I finally took the plunge myself!
I have been watching the DELL site for over a month for the Penryns to arrive. I was glad to see they did!
My configure:
M1530
T9300 CPU
1440x900 LCD
3GB DDR2
120GB Hard Drive
(I ordered a 200GB 7200rpm from newegg for $139 after rebate)
8600M GT
- $350 discount coupon
1yr warranty
Total = $1,323.95
I am happy with the price this should be a killer machine! I can't wait to get it! I am just hoping that DELL has worked out the kinks w/ the grainy LCD issue! -
Dell didn't have a problem with many x900, mostly the x1050's.
-
for any canucks out there waiting for the penryn upgrade, an online rep just told me that they are available and that the website should be updated late today (though knowing the efficiency of the dell.ca site, that could mean sometime next week
)
-
Where did you find 350 discount coupon from?
-
how come you didn't get there special $599 off?.....you would have gotten the 3-year warranty....and the same hard drive it would have just been a little more about $1450
-

That's with the $599.99 coupon on their site. Is there an EPP coupon going around to stack onto that? I'd really appreciate it if someone could hook me up. -
With that deal you would be talking $1,598 after the CPU upgrade to the T9300. I was happy with route I went, I never keep computers for more than a year!
-
$350 off XPS M1330 and M1530 laptop $1599+
coupon code: ?TQJZJ?Q79?W4L
xpbargains.com <- great site for coupons -
Are you a student, parent of a student, alumni, etc.? Do you or your family work for the government or a company that has an employee purchase program with Dell?
If you are qualified, you could save another 12% in the education and employees section. -
Oddly enough when I use that coupon on my order, it overrides my -$599 one. Think I might be better off not using a coupon this time. Don't get me wrong though I never knew about that site for coupons before thanks
.
-
My father is retired air force and department of defense, and my brother is in the navy. Could I use one of those for the discount? The business I work for is less than 500 people, so I doubt that would work.
-
are you eligible for the EPP instant discount? that would reduce the price even more to about 1,450 or so
-
I'm thinking having my brother in the navy order it would the best bet for me getting the EPP discount.
XPS 1530 /w Penryn now available for US customers!
