    Hi!
I'm planning to buy a Dell XPS 1530.

Unfortunately, Dell will only deliver 2 dimms, so if I buy 1 GB RAM, they give me 2x512 , etc...

So my plan was to replace the 2x512 MB , and buy 4 GB somewhere online.

Any online stores or power sellers you can recommend?

Also what RAM should I buy or doesn't that matter?

^^agree! Also brand does not matter as long as you buy from a reputable seller like "newegg" and get a lifetime warranty. Also check out RAM Deals on this site.

well i dont know of any reputable online stores (except ebay+amazon) in the u.s.^^
im currently living in europe, coming over to study next month - so i checked out some notebooks, 1530 seems pretty good for me.
i probably take 1 gig , take it out, and replace it with 4 gigs from self bought ram - (lifetime warranty is pretty nice =) )

also i will install vist a64 bit, otherwise i would only get 3.5 gb ram recognized.

    thanks for your quick answers.

Dell wants $125 to go from 1GB to 2GB. I 4GB on Newegg for $64.99. That's twice the memory for half the price, meaning that it's four times a better deal.

Haha I like your math. Thats the way I figured it, I was only gonna get 2GB but for this price I figured why the hell not get 4GB, in a few years it will be like having 2GB now. 3 years ago when my brother bought his computer 512mb was the minimum, and now 1GB is. So I figure in another 3 years or so 2GB will be the minimum. This way by getting 4GB now I am sure that my system will be fast in 4 years still, which is the minimum I need it to last. I figure if I upgrade the hard drive to SD in a year or two when it's a reasonable price my system should last me at least 4 years, hopefully 5.

2GB is already the minimum in my opinion. If you want Vista to run smoothly, you need to have 2GB.
