I noticed that the RAM that ships with the 1530 is PC 5300.. Has anyone changed it out for PC 6400 memory? Have you noticed a difference? The memory is the lowest score that I get in the Vista performance assessment (4.8).

HOw are you planning on running PC6400 on a Santa Rosa platform?
The max mem will run is DDR667. If there is a way - please tell. -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
You can use the PC6400 memory... it just won't run at PC6400 speeds. So you'll feel no different. Like at all.

You can install PC2 6400 ram in a system running at PC2 5300 speeds. It just runs at the slower speed. There may be a slight (and I mean slight) increase in performance if the PC6400 ram has better timings than the PC5300 ram, but that is almost never the case.
Most of the time, the timings are relaxed to run at a higher speed.
Just looking at newegg, most of the PC2 5300 ram (42 types) has a cas latency of 5, but there are some (6 types) with a latency of 4. The PC2 6400 ram has a cas latencies of 5 (16 types) and 6 (4 types).
So theoretically, you should get better performance with PC2 5300 ram with a CAS latency of 4 than PC2 6400 ram with a cas latency of 6, when run at DDR 667 speeds. But you may be able to run that PC2 6400 at a cas latency of 4 when run at the slower speed.
But keep in mind the performance differences here are on the order of 1%.
