    Hi All

A little background, I purchased a 1530 when they first came out configured with the 8600 Nvida, T7500, and a 1280x800 LCD. I upgraded the ram to 4 and the hard drive to a 7200. I loved the laptop with the exception of the screen resolution. Unfortunately a month or so ago the laptop was stolen, so I have been waiting to see if centrino 2 would come out, but with the delay in that I am at a point where I need to reorder (my old inspiron 9300 is about to bite the dust).

I am going to upgrade to the LED screen, but other then that and possibly the processor, I am going to keep the same specs. My question is how much of a leap in power do you get from going from 2.2ghz to 2.5ghz. And also do you get any battery savings going from the t7500 to the t9300. I do some video editing so if the jump would be larger then the percentage jump from 2.2 to 2.5 it might be worth the extra 125 dollars. Not sure if there is a site out there that compares the two, or if any of you had any experience with these two different processors.

Better invest in faster hard disk than in faster CPU if you are ready to spend more money ;).

    Better power consumption.

LOL, thought of that a little to late the last time.

The better power consumption is something I was thinking about, with the LED and the T9300 the battery life should be improved. But I would love to know how much of a speed boost the extra cache and mhz would bring with the T9300.

Toms Hardware website did a benchmark on different CPUs, I would search their site for it. I think the T8300 should quench your computation needs.

They had a more detailed benchmarking with over 10 CPUs and 3 different games, it was like 5 pages.

Thanks CeeNote, that was a good link. It looks like you get anywhere from a 12% to 23% increase depending on the test for the 12% increase in Processor speed (T7500 to T9300). Would be nice if the tom hardware's list would be updated since they have quite a few benchmarks to compare over there.

Your best bang for you buck would be the T8300. 2.4Ghz, 3MB cache and slightly better power consumption

Rhodan, thanks for the response. I thought that the Penryn's (T9300) were supposed to have better power consumption, then the 8000 series?

8300 and 9300 are both 45nm Penryns. They use less power because they are using new 45nm technology.

t8xxx and t9xxx have the same power consumption with a voltage range of 1.00 to 1.25. The T7xxx (memron) have a voltage range of 1.0375 to 1.30.

So since I have the T7500 in mine, and I THINK that the T8300 is the same price... did I get ripped off? (I'm not worried at all about power consumption factor, I'm almost always plugged in)

I would say you missed out on the slightly cooler less power using 45nm technology. You arent going to be "missing out" on anything big though.

The T9300 is the smarter choice: good power consumption, LOWER temps, and better OCability.

Can you actually overclock the CPU in this laptop? I thought Dell locked the multipliers (which is a very common thing for laptops).
