Hello all, I just received my XPS1530, and am having troubles playing TF2 and CS:S with surround sound.
I have got my XPS hooked up to my samsung plasma through my sony digital receiver via HDMI. I already have the HDMI transmitting sound while watching movies using Media Center, but am having problems playing TF2 and CS:S with surround sound. The FAQ on steampowered.com does not help either.
I can get both TF2 and CS:S to play on my TV with stereo (2.1) sound, all through the HDMI, but I can't get them to play with surround sound 5.1 I have enabled DTS and DOLBY, and essentially all the frequencies for audio through the sound control panel.
In TF2 and CS:S, I have gone into options>audio, and selected the surround option, and can click OK, but when I go back and check, it reverts to 2-speaker stereo. When playing, it plays 2.1 stereo (2 speakers with my sub.)
Has anyone gotten this to work?
Thanks!

Are you using Vista? Because there is a known issue with digital surround sound and Vista with Source games, but analog surround should work.
Check out this post on Steam forums:

You can try typing "snd_digital_surround 1" in the console, but that didnt work for me.
Looks like we'll just have to wait until Steam fixes this problem. -
Not sure why I didn't find that post, but that's it. That is dissapointing. Looks like it's been going on for awhile. Thanks for the find!
