    Hi,

I have an XPS 1530 and I can't see Vista SP1 as an available update yet. Can someone tell me how to identify the problem drivers I need to update so that SP1 will be automatically installed. I would rather not run the standalone version without addressing the driver issues first.

    Thanks.

this is most likely caused by the fingerprint reader. the Dell software is out of date so if you want SP1 you'll need to grab the drivers manually from

    http://www.upek.com/support/downloads/drivers/windows.asp

you shouldn't need to restart - that's just a driver package, it doesn't change the actual software.

so wait a few minutes, then check Windows Update.

try that, and if it still doesn't work you'll have to check your other drivers against

I just downloaded the whole 400+MB SP1 from M$ and installed it that way. Screw all this "Guess which driver is crippling your OS update?" nonsense.

For my new machine (around 2 weeks old), all I had to do was update the fingerprint reader driver as suggested and the day after, SP1 was listed as an available update. Worked like a charm, thanks to the info on this board.

Thanks all. Updated the upek fingerprint driver, rebooted and SP1 showed up in Windows Update.

I updated both the fingerprint reader driver as well as Sigmatel driver on my XPS 1530. Vista SP1 still doesn't show up in windows update. Is there any other driver I need to check?
I have installed Sigmatel driver version 6.10.0.5614. Is a newer version available?
