Well. I will make it short story.
Got first XPS 1530 was damaged and the black screen over the keyboard that has multimedia buttons was scratched big time.
Returned it.
Got the second XPS 1530.
Same exact problem with the same scratched part. I did post a thread last night, to see if I was missing something. No one helped really. So I called Dell and they didnt say anything except to do exchange. So I did ..
so here I am setting looking at this nice laptop with annoying thing. thinking that I have to wait for the third one. And I realized that the part I was complaining about might have a protective cover. So I tried to peal the corner. It did come off . Underneath id beautiful black shiny plastic. No scratches.
Ok no I get it
Whats really weird is that no one at Dell's or this forum told me that there is a protective cover over that part.
So I called Dell and canceled the exchange.

Heh. Would of sucked waiting forever to get your machine again.
How fast is your machine? I am getting the exact same specs it appears from your sig. Also wondering if you formated and reinstalled the OS to get rid of bloatware. If so did you get a good performance increase? -
i guess now the dell xps you returned will go to the dell outlet website where someone might be able to snatch it for cheap as a refurbished laptop
So you should stop feeling stupid and think that you actually did good for someone hehe -

LOL everyone who saw mine said it was scratched. But yeah if you look closely its a plastic cover you peel off.
-
too late,, too late....
-
is the slot drive noisy??
-
I didn't bother me with noise. I do not use discs that often.

LOL! I did that when I first got mine too! I showed my mom and she said, "No, there's a protective slip over it." She then peeled it off, but I couldn't even tell it was there.
I was tempted when I saw your threads to see if you didn't peel it off, but then I figured I was probably the only one to not realize it was there lol. -
someone posted a video on youtube with a m1330 and thee slot drive and it made a really bad sound. .could u watch this and tell me if its this loud
http://youtube.com/watch?v=-UpLZpuH5cw -
mine makes the same sound but 50% less. it's not that anoying. even though this is not a problem. I think. -
does it make it while ejecting the cd also
-
the funny part is that. Dell Rep offered me $70 credit so I don't exchange it .. I said NO... now I'm thinking I should got these 70$.. -
Lol this story is kind of funny. Don't feel too bad though.
Just the other day I was playing my guitar (That I've had 8 YEARS!!) and I noticed something odd about how scratchy the back of the guitar's covers were. I started peeling and before you know it I had two 6"x6" pieces of plastic that had been covering them for the last 8 years. HAHAHA.
-
So did you carefully remove the plastic film thats over the LCD???
NO DON'T!!!! I am joking. It is funny. -
Don't feel bad about this, is pretty crazy that Dell and/or other users (and yourself lol) didn't realize what the real issue was.. no harm done in the end though, so just chillax and enjoy you new laptop! -

Probably the reason no one chimed in is because the plastic scratches easily even from wiping with a cotton cloth,no matter how careful you are it will probably have more scratches soon than what you were complaining about ,for that reason I purposly left the protective plastic on my new replacement.
