I just received my lovely new XPS 1530 and am very impressed. It seems a little slower than I expected. I also have a Dell Inspiron 9300 running XP Pro that blows it away as far as boot up and running apps.
Here are some specs for my XPS. I tried to log on to Dell.com to get my specs but the site was down this morning, sorry.
Processor Intel 2.2 ghz
1 gb dual channel memory
160 gb 5400 rpm hard drive
8600 GT graphics card.
Those are probably the main items of concern. I was planning on upgrading the memory from 1gb to 4gb rather than just plugging in a 2gb single piece for a total of 2.5 gb. I understand only 3.5 will be recognized.
Would this memory be okay or should I stick with Corsair or Crucial?

The prices are similar but no rebate involved with this brand.
Just wondered if the lack of memory and the hard drive speed were the main culprits. If so, maybe I should just send this computer back and upgrade the hard drive to the 250 gb 5400 rpm.
Thank you for your assistance.

Trust me...it's the RAM. I got mine with 1GB and I was messing around with it for a few days waiting for my 4GB to arrive. Once I put the extra RAM in, it was a world of a difference, like I was using a whole new computer. Don't worry, that hard drive isn't slowing you down (I have the same one), it's just the RAM.

Thanks so much for the quick response. I was just getting ready to order 4gb's of transcend ram from Newegg.

i don't get what you mean by when you say is will only recognized 3.5 only
-
its the ram, mine was slow too when I first started it with the 1GB but when I added the 2GB memory modules in the there, the computer took off
the vista dell installed is the 32-bit version, so our systems will only recongize 3.5 not the 4GB
if they installed the vista 64-bit version in our systems, it would recognize the whole 4GB of memory -
First off I'd install XP and rid yourself of Vista. Then I'd use 1gb for a while and see how it goes. Personally I always suggest 2gb minmum but if your only surfing and playing the odd game then 1gb is enough.

windows vista 32 bit vs windows vista 64 bit on the xps 1530 what is the difference and witch one is better right now to use
-
32 bit I would say on your configuration
