Hey I ordered my 1530 order the phone with the lowest video card, the Nvidia8400M GS it says on the dell website. But on my order status page it says 8400M G, no S. Is there a difference? It really isn't that big of a deal since the only game I play is CS 1.6 and it runs fine on my 3 year old dell with integrated graphics. But I just wanna make sure that I am getting what I payed for. The item number is 320-6081

Haha yeah I am not much of a gamer, I just like to shoot some people once in a while...I am pretty excited, even though everyone says this graphics card sucks, it will be a million times better then my 3 year old Intel integrated graphics and going from a P4 512 ram 4200rpm HD to a C2D 2.0 4GB 5400rpm HD I should see a HUGE performance increase, especially since I will be using Ubuntu instead of Vista.

What about Counter-Strike: Source? Will it be able to play it well?

8400M GS and 8400M G are two different cards (GS is slightly better because it has twice the number of stream processors = universal floating point processors replacing previous generation's dedicated pixel and vertex shaders). However I don't know their performance difference, and I didn't know DELL offered 8400M G with M1530 either.

Upgrade it to a 8600mGT to make it more future proof, who knows what may come along that you want to play.

Nah it's not worth the extra hundred bucks to me. I don't play the latest and greatest games, and don't really care if they run on low settings...not worth the money for me. Plus I will probably be playing games less and less when I get into college.

What the hell. When I configured my machine it said 8600M GT on the configuration but now when I look at my invoice it says 8600m G

Is this truly a worse card? Are they playing some kind of bait and switch game?

its not that bad! I have played both Crysis and Unreal Tournament 3 on my Sony SZ61WN/C running the 8400M GS with 64MB of dedicated VRAM (up to 831MB when sharing the system RAM).

Obviously Crysis was on all the lowest settings, but it still runs pretty smooth! And Unreal Tournament 3 ran even smoother on medium settings! And this was running under Vista Business (32-bit)!!

If I was running under XP Pro SP2, then it would be even smoother!

I am using the latest 169.09 drivers from laptopvideo2go.com
