    I did upgrade memory on my new M1530 with original Dell two- 2 GB each. On the computer performance score the Memory show score only 5.1;
    The Processor T8300 score 5.3;
    Hard drive SATA 120 GB 5400 Rpm score 5.5;
    NVIDIA 8600M GT Video card - Desktop for Window Aero score 5.9 what is Aero?; For 3D Business & gaming graphics 5.5;
    Why is memory so low? I can’t install more memory. Is on the market some component to boost the memory speed?
    Can I update any other components to have better performance? I know there is better Processors which model is best for this laptop is it T 9300?

    atleast you have over 5.... i got 3 gigs and i get 4.8.... cant figure out why i have lower rating than people with 2 gigs. go figure.

    don't worry about MS's silly windows performance index-- in real life it doesn't mean a thing..........

    probably because the laptop uses 667mhz speed ram, upgrade it to the max of 800 mhz(the proc can only handle up to 800mhz any higher would burn it) speed ram so basicly go buy some corsair rly fast notebook ram, ur score might not change much though. besides, as long as you are fine with the speed of your laptop, who care about numbers?

    WEI is a very crude benchmark for your system's components so you shouldn't really pay too much attention to those numbers.
    Performance in memory doesn't only depend on the amount of ram you have, but also the speed at which it can run. eg. 667 or 800mhz.

    m8,sorry,but you dont make any sense...upgrading to 800 mhz wont give him anything,coz his motherboard(not CPU!!!!) cant "use" more then 667,and it wont burn if he use higher one...it ll just not recognize it ;) ...OP, there is nothing to worry,that benchmarking prog. really sucks!

    Oh...don't worry about it...WEI means nothing...

    For me, I simply modified the teg file, and here's my rating...hehe...

    If the low score makes you uneasy....well...just chage it!

    I'm in the same boat, I believe that it's in part due to memory running in what Intel calls "Flex" mode. The 2GB Stick will run in Dual Channel and the 1GB Stick runs in Single Channel Mode. You need two Identical Sticks for the whole thing to run in Dual Channel Mode.

    I just upgraded my 2GB RAM to 4GB. Yeah, the WEI for memory still the same 4.8.
    Other laptop brands (Merom CPU) with same 2GB RAM scored 4.9 and 5.0.
    And Penryn CPU M1530 will score 5.1 for memory.
    Penryn utilise the memory better?

    I know WEI is irrelevant but I wonder how the Vista does the benchmarking process.

    Memory benchmarking is not based on installed capacity. In most cases, the differences between a 2GB and 4GB system will be negligible during use.

    It still amazes me how many people (and I don't refer to anyone who has posted in this thread) hold the equation "more memory = faster computer" in their minds, despite evidence to the contrary.

    If you're considering upgrading from 2GB to 4GB solely to improve the responsiveness of your machine when multitasking, you would probably be far better off (by an order of magnitude, most likely) investing in a faster hard drive or a RAID0 config of your existing setup.

    Having said that, the time will surely come where 2GB is the new 1GB and certain games start demanding "2GB minumum, 3GB+ recommended".

    Well, some part has to be the slowest part. If it would have been the harddisk, then you could just as well have written a thread titled "XPS 1530 is Harddisk the weakest component?".

    As already said, the Vista performance index really does not have a lot of meaning, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

    On my M1530 I get similar scores, with 5.1 for memory.

    Installing 800 MHz memory will not help anything. Even though the processor can handle up to 800 MHz bus speeds, the Santa Rosa chipset is limited to 667 MHz. If you install 800 MHz memory, it will run at 667 MHz. So installing faster memory is a waste of money.

    Some notebook manufacturers (Zepto, for example) offer 800 MHz instead of 667 MHz memory - but since the memory will run at 667 MHz regardless, it is useless. It's only a marketing trick.

    Jesper: I agree with your post except where you mention Zepto and 800MHz RAM. I believe Zepto are a Clevo reseller (much like Rock) which means they are not offering 800MHz RAM for Santa Rosa laptops. The systems they use are essentially built from desktop parts, including the chipset.

    You can see this if you spec up their top of the range SLI laptop. The quad-core config uses desktop CPU's.

    In the case of Clevo originated machines, 800MHz RAM will make a slight difference.

    It is also worth mentioning that 800MHz ram underclocked to 667MHz would potentially run with tighter latencies. Quite how you persuade a fairly well locked-down BIOS to make use of it is another discussion entirely!

    Well what do you know................ my WEI is different.

    I ran WEI when I was working on Adobe Photoshop,Itunes,IE multiple windows,etc.
    and I got this. I will be retaining it.heehee
