I'm going to be buying my fist laptop soon. I know the Inspiron and XPS can be both configured pretty similarly. But outside of CPU's, Video cards and Ram how do the internal guts on these 2 laptops compare? Are the XPS built with better parts to last longer and be more reliable. I'm talking about differences in motherboards, heat-sinks, power supplies, hard drives and so forth. Are the XPS's using better higher quality parts compared to the Inspiron's?

If I do buy a Dell I'm looking at the XPS 1530, or an Inspiron 1720. The XPS 1730 is a little too expensive and flashy for my taste. I would prefer a 17 inch monitor but I can live with a 15.4.

Hardware-wise I believe that quality will be pretty similar. However you do get the benefit of XPS tech support which people have said to be much better than mainstream.

Yea, I believe the XPS hardware will be pretty much similar to the Inspiron, but the XPS tech support is better.

I'd go with the 1530, but that's my opinion.

I've heard about the tech support being better. But I've never needed tech support with my Dell desktop. Are their issues that come up regularly with laptops???
    Thanks.
