Hey there, just noticing a few things and would like some opinions on whether this is normal. Basically, just beneath the touchpad on the bottom/front/centre of the laptop, just behind the headphone jacks, it gets pretty hot, even just searching the web and the like, though not really getting any worse gaming. What component would it be that is situated there? I'v got nTune and Speedfan which say that the processor cores creep up to 45C - the fans come on n they shoot back down to 30C again where they start the cycle of creeping back up again. The GPU likewise rises to about 61C while idling and 68C while gaming before the fans come on n it drops to around 53C again. Now I'm presuming those temperatures are pretty good, and nothing to worry about.
So what is it beneath the touchpad in the centre which is getting so hot even with the fans running. The hard drive is to the left of the touchpad isn't it? That area is fine and relatively cool. Since I'm not sure what component it is that is getting hot I can't measure it with a program, but basically it borders on the point of being too hot to touch. I have the laptop on a hard wooden surface, the back is raised with a dvd case for better circulation and the room temp is pretty cool, and the fans and cooling on the laptop seem to work great for all the other components. So it's not a ventilation problem. Any help would be appreciated.

It is most likely the heat from the HDD. I wouldn't worry about it.

It should be the wireless card that is situated under the touchpad. My 1530 also becomes very hot on the bottom right below the touchpad and the heat leaks up trough the touchpad and trouth headphone-jacks.
Should the wireless card really become this hot? -
The wireless cards are right below the touch pad.
I know I have the same problem. I have doubts about it.. who puts an HDD below the wrist area?? I have an Asus A6V where the HD temp goes up to 45 sometimes, but the typing area is cool and I can still work on it. I don't know, but I'm getting a bit frustrated myself... Ppl have indicated that I should get a cooler, but I don't wanna have a freaking cooler on me all the time... -
Just received my xps 1530, running an intel wireless N and a 160 gb hdd at 7200 rpm. Just a few minutes of websurfing gets the area under the touchpad too hot to place on my lap and the area on the surface, around the touchpad and where i rest my wrists gets uncomfortably warm. Could it really be the wireless card that is causing all this heat? I don't get it....

Some say is the chipset.. some say its the wireless card. Could be both?

Well, the wireless card is supposed to cause a lot of heat, but I think there may be hardware issues because with my M1530, I have used it for 4 hours straight including web browsing, playing Assasins creed, etc. I have a 250GB 7200RPM drive and Intels Wireless N card, and it doesnt get hot whatsoever. It gets "slightly warm", but not enough to actually warm up my wrists.
Probably should call for a replacement...
I currently have 2 M1530s, one of which I'm shipping back, and both of them are very cool with 250GB 7200RPM drives and Wireless N cards. -
It seems to be the chipset

My experience is the same as Forte's with my 1530. Same config.

There are numerous threads on this topic, especially with the 1330. Yes, the area you are describing gets hot and I don't know if it is the wireless card, h/d or southbridge underneath the wireless card. At any rate, unless it is burning, it is probably running at normal temp. I have had a few 1330s pass through my hands and they have all been hot. The problem also is that what might be hot to you might not be to someone else. There is a lot of perception going on. Run the fan diagnostic to see if it is running properly.
XPS 1530 temperatures.
