I've ordered my Vostro 1510 last week with these specifications:

    T8300 2.4Ghz 3MB
    3G Ram
    256 NVIDIA 8400 GS

But I am looking at the XPS 1530 with these specification

    T7700 2.2 4MB
    3g ram
    256 NVIDIA 8600 GS

the same price .... But the Vosto comes with the UltraSharp screen and XP which I prefer now over the Vista ,...

I will be playing games ,, maybe Call of duty 4 and some old multiplayer games ,, not too new...

I am really confused ,, should I cancel my order and go for the XPS ? I dont have any experience with dell customer service ,, I dont even know if I can cancel my Vosto without paying any fees ... :D

Any thoughts will be welcomed !!

    Thnx

I'd take the 1530 without esitation.

    Much better build.

The spec aren't the only thing to see...

I'm currently playing COD4 and my oh my are the graphics amazing on an XPS. 1280 x 800 resolution with everything high except AA, but the game runs very smoothly at around 25-40 fps. I can't say it's the best, but the 8600m GT will be far superior to the 8400. I'd get the XPS if I had to choose again. And no, you won't be charged a fee for canceling an order if it hasn't been shipped yet. And even if it has, I doubt they will charge you. Their customer service is good if you're getting an XPS. Far more reliable than customer care department.

All the time I thought that the quility of Vostros is better the the XPS. I'll contact with them as soon as I decide what I should get ! I started to really like the XPS ! but the only reason what made me go for the Vostro is that I thought the built quility was better and I heard of some problems with the screen and HDD of the XPS.

I never owned a vostro, but my brother has one. It does have a sturdy build, but the performance is no where near to what the XPS can handle. However, with an XPS, you may end up in trouble if you haven't done enough research. I'd suggest looking at the top ten questions about the m1530 thread, and see what your thoughts are after reading that. Dell is very kind enough to send you replacement laptops if you're not happy with what you have. At worst, you might end up shipping a few laptops back and forth. The good thing is that Dell covers the cost, so you don't pay anymore. Good luck with your decision!

Well ,, thnx a lot for passing over my thread ... I appreciate it.

Now I have till the weekend to reach a dicision about canceling the order or not. And more likely I will keep the order because anyways the proccessor of the Vostro is better and the screen resulotion is higher. I need the laptop for studying . So buying a Desktop next year will be a good option for gaming ,, since I can upgrade easily to any graphic cards ! And one more thing is that I am not ready to have any problems with my order that will make me have any contact with Dell for replacing ! because I need the laptop before my summer courses begin ! ,, thats why I am keeping the Vostro order ..

Thanks for your help and any other thoughts are more than welcome !

the new Vostros and the older vostros from last year are NOT comparable. They are totally different chassis. the older Vostros, which were thicker and heavier.. were quite sturdy. I haven't used the new ones yet but its clear that the new designs are thinner, but also seems to be more "plasticky" and not as durable

Comparing to the old Vostros ,, the new ones can't be as sturdy as the old ones are. But the old ones are just too bulky. Sure the quility of built won't drop that much with the new Vostros.
