    I own a 9400 Inspiron.
I asked a similar question in a other post but not so specific....
The 9400 only has "Intergrated Sound with subwoofer"

I am getting the m1710 which has "Intergrated Sound B Audigy Advanced HD "

id like to know - i know that the chip as such is the same
but id like to know the actual noticeable difference in the software...

like what options u have, such as echo etc and if u have any great perks that just wont get with the standard.

these 2 laptops are indeintical right? !

the only difference is the physical outer case right?

and the only other thing i can say is the 1710 has "Intergrated Sound B Audigy Advanced HD (softwarre)"

    opposed to standard sound card.

    .

why has the 1710 rated so highly around the world then
and the 9400 is less known etc....

    is it all marketing ...?

The build quality counts for quite a lot. the inspirons are basically flimsy plastic on the outside, and are really bad at dissipating heat. No popular laptop has a seperate sound card, AFAIK. They are all integrated.

The software that they install is just a collection of equalizer and player applications. It doesn't enhance the sound in any way.

Nope. The 9400 is identical to the E1705. The M1710 has dual-heatpipe video card capability.

The biggest thing the Audigy drivers add is EAX support for games.
