That's Merom all right...but the website doesn't let you configure the M1710 for the T7x00 series Merom chip yet.
This is the second time the Dell website has been seen with laptops "equipped" with the Merom chip. The first time was a mistake and was taken down quickly. This one might be the real thing, since the processor should now be available to manufacturers.
My guess is, that as a best case senario, the M1710 will be configurable with Merom starting tomorrow...but that is a GUESS. -
Yup, that's merom. But you can't customize the notebook to a Core 2 Duo yet though.
-
anyone able to place order over the phone?
-
i called and sales rep, who was very nice went to check. She said she does not know why that was posted. merom will not be available for 3 to 6 months. bummer.
-
I guess she took Merom to be Santa Rosa... -
could be but sager retailers who are knowledgeable say delay till oct, so she may be right.
-
the first time that I spoke with a dell sales rep to ask them if any updates were coming, they certainly didn't know anything. before my desktop got to my house, they had discontinued my model and replaced it with a better one. i called that same sales rep back, crabbed him out, and demanded a refund...and they didn't give it to me.
needless to say, after enough fuss dell did return the pc...and i bought an hp
*EDIT: I probably should mention that I own both Dell and HP equipment...I'm not really partial - but I don't like when a company isn't honest! -

I just checked the Europe DELL site. It is advertised for M1710, but it is not available either...
-
the whole thing is probably because someone updated their assigned webpage a little too early or a little too late. either way, we have a great hint that Merom might be making a physical debut VERY soon!
BTW: I'm anxious to see what Dell and HP puts out in the 15.4" notebooks...I need a new one! -
I'm guessing Merom will pop up in Dell's XPS notebooks in the next month or so at the very latest. Once the Inspiron's get it, it'll probably be a matter of weeks or even days before their XPS counterparts get it too.

waiting really sucks
-
-
same here lol, waiting sucks
I have $1500 sitting here for a M1210 w/ Merom.
But I may simply buy a core duo from the DELL outlet and upgrade later when Merom prices drops. (The DELL outlet can save you several hundreds of dollars, and you can buy a merom later)
-
I have about $4000-$5000 sitting ready to spend.
If the XPS1710 gets a Merom - I buy
If the Alienware Aurora m9700 gets the X2 - I buy
I may be forced (not a fan of HP) to get the HP dv9000z and get faster discs.
I may get the Alienware Aurora m7700. This is looking very likely.
I cannot wait much longer.... I have a deadline to meet.
