Ok, the rep I talked to could be talking a lot of ****, but if you go to dell.com.au you'll notice that the xps 1710 is no longer able to be purchased. I know that the xps 1730 is coming out any day now, and the rep I talked to confirmed this.

Here's the thing, he told me the 1730 was replacing the 1710. When I explained to him that I was absolutely not interested in purchasing that behemoth of a overpriced machine (using more diplomatic words of course), I asked if they we're planning to re release a new model similar to the XPS 1710. His answer was "No, as far I know".

This stinks! As far as options are concerned, I was banking on the XPS 1710 being available, as importing a Clevo 570U so far has gone out of my reach between shipping, duty and taxes.

    Has anyone heard anything different?

Its gone and will not be coming back, the new model will be released soon. It has been available long enough. Time to move on. I sgguest you look at the 17 inch Inspiron model if you want the large screen laptop.

Thats unfortunate. I know on the US website it is still there with about a 400$ price drop.

You and I both know the Inspiron 1720 is no where near as powerful graphics wise as the XPS 1710.

I mean really, the gap between the 1720 and the new xps 1730 is large. Seems odd to have such a difference like that.

I took the plunge a couple weeks back and ordered the XPS 1710 'cos the NZ site had them with a Limited Quantity sign above them.

They'd dropped around $500 in the last couple of months so it was a real no brainer for that much grunt, still the fastest single mobile gfx card available.

The NZ site no longer lists the 1710 either now. I'll be happy with mine for the next two years until the top of the line 1730 is about to expire and pick that up for a comparitive song too. Let the keen ones with too much dosh buy the first run and iron out the bugs for us ;-)
