Is there truly any difference in build quality between the XPS and Inspirion? At moment im looking at a NEW E1705 or a refurbished XPS Both have the SAME specs across the board and the price is about the same as well. Is the XPS build quality any better? If so is it better enough to buy a refurbished XPS over a NEW Inspirion? Thanks.

The build quality is about the same as they (the e1705 and m1710) are based on the same chassis. The difference comes into play with the special lights, optional better GPU, overclockable 7600g, and better tech support. Physically they will be very similar.

If you don't need the T7600G or the 7950gtx, the e1705 is a better bet.

Yes, XPS systems have better build quality than their adopted little brother, inspiron.

It is easily noticeable if you had them both side by side. The XPS laptop "shell" is of higher quality material, (probably) assembled with more care, and feels much more sturdy and solid than the Inspiron models.

XPS systems also have a dedicated tech support line and will have higher resale value when you are ready to upgrade (compared to an e1705 w/same spec).

Well that would again lead me to the question to those of you whom feel the XPS build is better....Is it better enough to warrant a refurbished XPS over a NEW Inspirion? As we all know the problems refurbished can bring sometimes.

He is refurbished from any company. I know what he is referring to because I have had cases where the refurbished one wasn't processed through Quality Control enough and makes it though with other issues or with the same issues they were sent in with. Anyways like wearetheborg has said I have not seen any reported cases of refurbished Dell computers having any issues.

Yeah Dell is good in this respect :D
One gets the same warranty on outlet notebooks as on new ones (against the general trend of companies who have a castrated warranty on refurbished items)

Xps > Inspirions in terms of build quality.
