    Hey fellas,

I've been searching high and low for a way to get the dell remote that came with my 1530 to work with windows xp. I do a lot of presentations and the remote would be excellent, not to mention using it when connected to the tv.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks guys!

remote is not a media direct thing. It works also with windows media player, windows media center itunes etc....so you should be able to get it to work. and media direct is not dependant on your operating system. It is a stand alone feature, so boot into media direct and see if it works. Then boot windows, open windows media player and see if it works. maybe the program your using doesn't have support or it could be a driver. sorry I can't offer more info but that's all i can think of. I still have vista on mine so far.....giving it a fair test run before i kick it out.

hey guys thanks for the response it really helped! It got me to thinking that it must not be an OS specific thing but rather the programs I am using.

By the way I got rid of all things media direct so thats not an option.

I was trying to use it with VLC player. Well I tried it with winamp now and it works! I put a specific dll file into the plugins folder called gen_inspironbuttons.dll

this allows me to use the touch buttons and the remote with the computer. Every button works with winamp. Now I am trying to figure it out with other programs too.

The remote is the one that came with my comp (the one that fits into the pci slot). It looks like an IR remote.

In anycase thanks guys for helping me solve this thing. You guys are really helpfull!

Edit: Now it works with powerpoint too without any modifications. I wonder if this is something built into the programs or if the OS assigns remote functionality to programs...

    Hi,
I have the same problem and don't know how to solve it.
Could you please explain what you exactly did with the DLL file?
Did you create a new DLL file? What programme did you use? What text did you put in? How did you configure that with winamp?

    Thanks in advance :)

What driver did you use for the remote control? If I use the standard dell supplied install it gives an error message at boot

[EDIT] must be the software that errors... I can use the remote control without any problems.
