Hi there, im new to the forums but have been browsing for the last month or so and decided to make a post. I have orded a XPS GEN 2 yesterday, and was reading a review about it when i came across a reviewer that stated he had a program that would cycle the leds through the colours and make them pulse etc... I have searched high and low for this supposed program on the internet and have not found it, if anybody knows what this program is and/or what its called, please could you tell me. also does anybody know how long it takes from date of order in the uk to receive a XPS GEN2. (<<<<< niceeeee laptop, cant wait.)

    Thanks very much

I do believe you are looking for this: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=85429&page=1&pp=15 I downloaded Qualar's version as it seems to be the one I like best. It's the first link and has a WMP plugin too. You will need to make sure you have .Net Framework installed from the windows update site though. The color changing program can do a bunch of different things which is great.

wow, thanks very much that was just what i was looking for, now i just gota sit tight and wait for it to arrive, just thinking about something and was wondering if you guys could help me out, i orderd the 60gb 7200rpm hard drive over the 100gb 5400rpm beucase i thoought it would be faster, (higher rotational speed), but i then read a post somewhere stating it would be the same speed beucase the data has a higher density on the 100gb hard drive's platters and hence its throughput is the same. Anybody have any insight onto this.

    Thanks Very much

7200 would have better access times and generally better transfer speeds. Arial density do not differ much unless you are talking about older generations. With current generation drives, the density are all about the same give ration speed a definite edge. Will you notice a diffence? Probably not, drives have gotten fast enough where the difference is only seconds for some intensive apps. Games that take long to load, will generally take long to load. You can see this by looking at ramdrive reviews were transfer rates and access times are incredible like in hundres of MB/s. Games such as Battle Field2 and Doom went from 25 seconds to 20 seconds and photoshop went from 6 seconds to 3 seconds. These are extreme comparisons, and difference will be much less pronounce. Only if your editing video/audio will you notice the difference more. And as for heat and batterylife, new technologies have made 7200rpm as cool and efficient as 5400rpms, the drain is usually not more than 1 or 2% more as hard drive barely eat power to begin with compared to other system devices.
